I had a great time with Alex on the early morning tour. I am an avid hiker, nature lover, and while I am a skeptic when it comes to the paranormal, I enjoy entertaining the idea of the spookier things, so this tour was perfect for me. I was the only guest on the tour, but Alex's friendly and calm manner instantly put to rest any concerns I had about getting into a car with a stranger in a foreign country so we could wander in a creepy forest where people have allegedly gone missing in the past.

Alex picked me up at 7am in early October, and he pointed out a few interesting buildings along the way to the forest. The fog in the city was utterly picturesque, so I got some fantastic photos of Cluj from just outside the forest. Unfortunately the fog did not permeate the forest.

The forest itself is beautiful, and it was fascinating to see so many strange elements all within close proximity. Alex brought a very down to earth perspective with his stories that felt extremely refreshing during a time when so many are focused on creating the most dramatic, exciting experience. I learned a lot about Romanian folklore and paranormal experiences as well as illegal logging in Cluj. Alex had a variety of photos and sound clips to show off some of the creepy experiences people had.

The early morning light was perfect for photos- I got some really great ones during the 7-10am time frame. The tour was so delightful I find myself hoping I can return someday to eventually do the night tour!

My wife and I are new travellers. Our guide in Hoya Bachu was Marius. Our knowledge of the language is not very good and there was a fear that there would be a communication problem. But Marius treated this with understanding, telling us simply and understandably enough for us, encouraging us to ask again if it was not clear. Of all, I liked the fact that Marius likes his job (maibe favorite hobby) very much. In a few hours we walked around a lot of interesting things and heard a lot of stories. Marius showed us photos of unusual events in the places where it happened. With the help of Marius, we took enough photos, some of them showed interesting effects. In addition, after learning that we were going to travel further, Marius sent us a list of interesting places near Cluj. This will greatly help us plan the itinerary for the remaining days. Now we don't have much time to travel and this project has been very useful for us. There would be more such projects.

Our guide Marius was just amazing. We had a great time. The location was interesting even for a sceptic such as myself. That was the great thing about Hoia-Baciu project, they do not try to cheapen the experience by faking stuff, but rather tell you interesting stories and giving you the possible factological explanations afterwards. Would definitely recommend Hoia-Baciu project to everyone visiting Cluj.

I had such a great time with Alex during the day tour (I wasn't quite brave enough for the night tour yet...). I think Alex is an excellent guide because he's genuinely curious about the forest and he isn't the type to make things sound scarier than they are just to be gimmicky. He can combine Romanian folklore, urban legend, scientific explanations, personal experience, and still-unanswered questions in a compelling narrative that you could listen to for hours. Also, just in case you're worried about being alone with a complete stranger in a forest in Eastern Europe, I want to reassure you that Alex is a nice guy who will never make you feel uncomfortable. I wasn't worried at all, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway for those who may be hesitant to go on this tour. I felt really safe with him. I also appreciate that he never laughed at me even though I was quite clumsy during the hike going up to the forest. (He lent me one of his walking sticks, which was really helpful. He also had some tick repellent with him. I suggest wearing something that completely covers your legs when you go to the forest.) Thank you again for the tour, Alex! Wishing you all the best.

My husband and I took a tour tonight of the Hoia-Baciu forest. It is a quite strenuous trek, but well worth the effort. We're didn't get any evidence of the paranormal but our guide, Alex, was so knowledgeable about the legends and the tales that we believed it could happen, to the right people at the right time.
Alex is also very knowledgable about the trees. It was amazing to see trees that are twisted or grow upside down. Overall, time and money well spent!

Visited here in February on a tour with Alex. He picked us up from our hotel and the trip started. Alex speaks very good English and is easy to get along with. Be prepared to hike through the hills to access the forest (I was just getting over a chest infection so found it difficult!). The forest definitely gives you an uneasy feeling which you can not quite put your finger on. Being totally neutral and of no opinion either way I found it most interesting. The real shocker came when we looked back at a photo we had taken. Zoom in yourself....

Thank you Alex for a great tour, we wish you every success.

Take a guided tour in Hoia Baciu forest, one of the most renowned forests with weird stuff! You can find out more about the forest by googling it.

The tour is very interesting. However, don't expect special effects or fake scary stories! Our guide (Alex, a physics graduate) told us the history of this place and also shared a lot of events from other tours. For sure he is not trying to push any paranormal ideas to you, actually he tries to find a logic reason for all that happened to him in Hoia Baciu; but he admits there are quite some events that he cannot explain and it's really interesting to hear about this.

It's a 2 hour easy walk in the forest with a very open and friendly guy. I do recommend to do it by night.

Don't miss this if you have the time for it!

I've done the tour with a big group and the guides were super helpful and friendly. They made us aware of all the legends that involve the forest and its history.
The forest is very very beautiful and it has a lot of interesting trees and landscapes... but if you want one tip, here it goes: use your walking boots! And don't be afraid to get them dirty (because they will get dirty!) I had a really good time.
