We were allowed to view this beautiful building after being taken there by our hosts. We have seen this building on our previous visits to Arad but it has been undergoing extensive refurbishment for the last few years. The inside has been refurbished to a very high standard and it was a delight to visit. It would be lovely to experience a concert here and maybe when we next visit this would be possible.

The Cultural Palace was built between 1911 and 1913 and is the place where symphonyc concerts are held and where musicians as Richard Strauss or George Enescu were conducting the orchestra & choir. Multiple architectural styles are seen (outside and inside). The Museum of Natural Science has also a place in the building, which is in renovation since two years ago. Last concert I was able to listen to was last Spring. The officials hope to finish the restoration by the end of this year.

In a historical building, by the river side, which is build in a mix of architectural styles: Neo-clasic, Renessance, Corinthinan, Gothic, you can fin the Filarmonica of Arad. Inside, the paintings on the ceiling are spectacular. It is worth visiting and also listening to a concert. Exept for the summer, each Wednesday is a concert starting 19:00 hour.

When I came in Arad I was impressed by this building and its history. When I went for the first time to a philharmonic orchestra performance in there I understood why some of th musicians were saying it has one of the best acoustics in the Eastern Europe. The interior are also nice but... the local authorities started reshaping (restoration) and , as they did with the musicians from the orchestra, they will destroy another local symbol

Arad is one of the ancient cultural center of Transilvanya with a long and significant musical tradition. Since 1833 it is attested establishment of a Conservative, the sixth in Europe, which institutionalizes a specialized musical education.

Worthwhile to see but try to go when there is a concert. The best concert is the New Years Concert in early January which features Strauss. The building contains 2 small museums. One is a natural history museum which you can walk through in 30 minutes. Don't bother to pay extra money for photos. The second is upstairs and traces Romania's history with an interesting section on the 1989 revolution. Now bear in mind my rating is in comparison to other Romanian museums so don't expect the British museum but is good place to kill 2 hours. You might also cach someone practicing in concert hall.
