At the beginning we was convinced it was just a turistic attraction, but as soon as we finish to visit the plant, we were really satisfied and surprised by the fascinating process used to produce the famous reunionnaise rhum
Qualified staff and a great exhibition make this place a must visit for all rhum lovers, and not only!
At the end a well furnished shop will wait for you, top!

Although centred on rum you learn all about Réunion's history through the medium of sugar cane (the essential ingredient in rum) at this museum. There is an old mill on display as well as some old and recent distilling stills, and there are lots of explanatory panels (maybe a little too many?). All the panels and signs have been translated into English, and audio-guides are available in English, German and Chinese (as well as French) for an extra charge of €2. The visit ends at the tasting room, which is followed by a well-stocked shop. You'll probably need a car to get here (I don't think there's public transport). The entry price is slightly high: €8.50 for an adult.

La saga du rhum est une visite intéressante, nb il faut faire la visite en étant accompagné du guide qui rend la chose beaucoup plus vivante et fun!
I had a great time at la saga du rhum and I learnt what is the difference between rum traditional and rum agricol... I hardly recommand to do the visit with one of the guide who make the difference : fun and live experience!

The visit with a guided tour was quite ok, but not a must do. Unfortunately, the tasting at the end was also not very good and the service was absolutely not enthusiastic.
In case you are also visiting Mauritius, I would prefer Chamarel. The distillery and the rum are definitely on a higher level and worth a visit.

With acres of sugar cane, Reunion produces a lot of Rum. The visit to this distillery was therefore interesting.
Unfortunately, it only works during the sugar cane harvest season but it is still worth the visit.
An audio guide will guide you through the works and at the end you get generous samples of different types of Rum.
The old fashioned steam engine is quite interesting.
I was with my own local guide but a charming English-speaking girl helped me with the Rum tasting!
Well worth a visit!

I was born in Réunion Island but never visited the museum and my husband is a fan of everything related to drinks so we decided to go for a visit.
We went for the guided tour which was brilliant, the guide always had a touch of fun by telling a joke from time to time. The visit is short and if you want to learn more, you can read the boards giving a bit of history mainly on rhum but also about Réunion as well.
Not to mention the rhum tasting after the visit, you can taste 2 différents rhum and if the girlfriend/wife doesn't like rhum then you can have hers! :)

It was nice to go back hundred years
and see the history of Isautier rhum and a bit of Reunion island history. For those who do not speak French there is audio devices in English. Also each description is written in English too. At the end you can taste several kinds of rhum. Be careful with the rhum based on chilli pepper, it burns your mouth. The ticket is around 7€-9€. At the end you can buy some good and interesting products. We bought a classical rhum and found it very good.

Speaking. Interesting to see rhum production, probable rating would be higher if I understand french better. But english translation was very modest, especially if you compare it with a time ( and speed...) french guide spent for talking...

Its a nice museum with lots of history, information and even tasting. The only thing missing is a little more interactio for the guest would be nice. Reading and listening dosnt help to make the history alive. But for a quick trip, this is nice to go.

We caught the local bus which was easy and cheap. When you arrive go to the right rather than to the office. Tour is in French but there are English headsets. Lots of rum tasting at the end which was great to try lots of different styles.

Cordialement.

Hi Sue
Unfortunately, no direct bus available. You might get a bus with a stop nearby, but still quite a distance to walk. If you like that ask at tourist office for help. Otherwise, take a taxi...Cheers, Markus
