This statue is now standing close to a market selling souvenirs. In the photo he's surrounded by foliage looking proud. Now he's standing in what looks like a car park. What a shame. This is amazing history on Mactan Island. Maybe he'll be moved again. There's nothing written there about the battle or how brave he must have been. Sad let down what a shame. Dianne.

Lapu-Lapu is the hero for Cebu.
Nice to go and explore the history not very big only took a couple of hours to walk around.
Market stalls available for souvenirs and snacks.
Close to Shangri-La hotel.

Lots of souvenir vendors. Not much there but is of historical significance. Not many people were there the day we were there. 1/2 hour was more than enough although we were offered an opportunity to rent a boat. Still worth a visit if you are looking to do some touristy sightseeing.

The statue is cool to see, but it's just a statue. It doesn't do or say anything. Can't get anything from it, like all other statues. The story behind the statue is interesting. The area the statue is located in is awesome. Lots of restaurants and places for a drink. Nightlife and things to see and do.

that was the question i wanted to be addressed. history books were not accurate in detailing about his death.
lapulapu was hailed as the first Philippine hero who fought with all his might and power against the European conquerors who wanted to invade this native’s homeland. eventually, after constant battles and diminishing army, he succumbed to them and converted to Christianity.
take time to take pictures with this statue for posterity. after all, lapulapu was a prominent historical
figure in the Philippines.

This attraction is on the island of Mactan, so it can take a while to get there by taxi, or being daring and using the local 'Jeep' style transport. It is about a 20 minute ride from the international airport. Lapu-Lapu is a local hero having resisted the 'invasion' of the Spanish under Magellan. My understanding that one of Lapu-Lapu's warriors was responsible for the death of this Spanish explorer. The garden setting is relaxing and there are a number of resorts nearby. Local stores and street-side vendors also frequent the area.
Be aware, especially as a 'tourista' and protect your valuables. Just use common sense, I did not experience any problems and I used a range of local transport options.

Why would anyone go here? It's a complete (racist) waste of time. Sickening, even. The whole story of lapu lapu is simply a made up story! It's like a monument to Gandalf or King Arthur.

As part of the historical Mactan Battle, this hero really fought for the rights of the filipinos against the spaniards, I am honored to visit his Shrine at Lapu Lapu City.

Lapu-Lapu is famous in the Philippines. After all he killed the even more famous Magellan. But the the statue itself is not worth a detour. Only stop by if you are within a few minutes. Don’t come from downtown Cebu for this.

is there an entrance fee?
