We took a walk through Salaverry while visiting on a cruise ship. The highlight of the area is the beach and adjacent promenade. The promenade was very nice for walking and had several nice spots for photos, a variety of food vendors, and places for kids to play. We walked down to the beach area, which is next to the port. Many people drive their cars directly on the beach, which is a little chaotic. There are a variety of open air restaurants and food carts on the beach. The beach itself is black sand. We visited on a Sunday so it was crowded with many families.....it's obviously a popular, local attraction. We just walked through as we had no plans to swim. We found the people to be very nice and quite a few spoke at least a little English.

We enjoyed our visit.

I had no plan of travelling to Salaverry in my travels to Peru until I met a friend named Alex. I was going to be spending the Christmas holidays alone and he offered his family home for me to join. I was grateful for the offer and of course I said yes! I ended up having an amazing time in this town, everyone was so friendly and everyone new each other. It was great to see especially over the holidays.

Many of the houses had open doors and when I asked why he explained that everyone is family and they are always welcome in and out throughout the day. That is something I don't see at home so it made me very happy. They have a beautiful beach and rock formation. The port is full of people fishing for there family meals and the atmosphere is very relaxed.

They had developed a nice boardwalk along the beach that also had little playgrounds for the children and a beautiful big colourful ship you could explore. They also had a stand along the beach I believe called "Mr. booze" and you could grab yourself some drinks while there was local music playing. I found it to be a great way to bring the community together and the locals seemed very excited about the progress of there town.

The fresh BBQ on top was delicious! I never wanted to stop eating. There are many varieties of restaurants where you can have you fresh fish from the port or some delicious BBQ chicken etc!

Coming to the town I was not expecting much but left with a huge heart, from the people, to the food and the overall vibes from the town really left a special place in my heart especially being away from my family over the holidays.

There is also great activities like sandboarding, fishing etc for you to give a try while you are there! With that being said I highly recommend you make a stop here if you get the chance :) Thank you to my friend and family for giving me the opportunity to experience your local town! I am very grateful xoxo

I’m afraid this area is dirty and not so safe so if you are visiting be very careful and whilst most of the people are friendly there are those who are not.

The historic center is beautiful, I haven't been there in a while. I also liked being in Huanchaco again. Also, I liked Salaverry beach, although it is far from Huanchaco. I didn't like the Gran Marquéz or Costa del Sol hotels in the center; the first, because they did not provide solutions to our requests and, the second, because there were a lot of people and their rooms were very dark. I also highlight the desserts from Bodega Lau in Salaverry. Fortunately we did not have problems with criminal elements, because we did not go to dangerous areas.
