Don't book a tour because that's a ripoff. Do it yourself. Take the Metro from downtown to Albrook terminal, cost nothing. Then just go outside the terminal and take a cab to Station Corozal. Don't ask for the price. Just pretend you know it. Then at the station just hand the the driver 5$, that's enough. Then buy the ticket.... More

One way or round trip will take you to either the Pacific or Atlantic side of the canal. The train really runs on time, so be ready and buy your ticket early.

This railroad is unbelievable. Besides carrying people from the Atlantic to the Pacific.they carry thousands of shipping containers. Apparently it is less expensive to offload at one and of the canal, ship them across to the other end and reload them back on the ships, rather than leave them on the ships as it goes through the canal.

The railway's Web site doesn't allow online bookings for the train. I got no reply to my email inquiries. The train leaves Panama City (really Albert) at 7:15 AM and the station locks up soon after. Google maps VASTLY underestimated the time required to get from the airport to the train station and I missed the train. I love train... More

We spent the morning in Portobelo - interesting fortifications, very laid back place - and then took the evening train back to Panama City departing at 17:15 from Colon. The train station is close to the bus station which is very busy and is very 'downtown' and as obvious tourists we were advised by a local not to wander around.... More

It was a bit of a wait for the train to start the actual ride to the Panama canal, but it was a fabulous day through nature and enjoying the sites along the way. We joined the coach bus at the end at the station to continue to the canal. Where we had a fabulous opportunity to watch a yacht... More

A half-day trip to discover the canal zone and all what happens around it, is the best way to go about exploring this treasure. Taking the train early morning (be at the station around 6am) is often not an option for travelers. Therefore it is more convenient to take the express bus at Albrook bus terminal ($3.5) to Colon. It... More

Hostesses were incredibly unorganized, took almost 1 hour to board like 50 people (very small crowd). They left us outside the train for almost 30 minutes because they did not know which cart to put us on. There were a few other tourists that were visiting on their own and had to basically join our group to get any information... More

In our case we started at Corozal Railway Station in Panama City at 07.15am and went to Colon on the Atlantic end of the canal. The railway and stock have been refurbished recently and harks back to another earlier era when railways were the glam way to travel. Not so glam now but definitely worth the trip especially if you... More
