Visiting Panama after taking a few years off we decided to revisit Richard's Finca dos Jefes Coffee Tour in Boquete and were never disappointed. His enthusiasm and passion for coffee, ecology, and growing methods have not waned a bit. Staying ahead of the curve, he is now using the outer husks and mucilage of the coffee bean to make tea.... I'm writing this review from the other side of the globe, staying with my brother, a coffee grower in Vietnam. Visiting his coffee plantation brought back memories of the Boquete Coffee Tour we took two years ago on our visit to Panama. The combination of a beautiful setting, a very informative and well presented tour, and of course great coffee... More

Richard provides an education in all aspects of coffee from growing to tasting to roasting but also gives a great overview of the coffee business from a growers perspective. His finca is beautiful and he is charming and a gracious host. One of the highlights of our visit to Boquete.

We called Richard and arrange a Coffee tour at 9:00am, there are two tour per day. He picked us at our lodge and took us to the coffee farm, while explaining something while driving there. In the "Dos jefes" (two bosses) he explained the different kind of coffees, the process to go from the plant to your cup, and the... More

The great thing about Richard and his coffee tour is that he gives a completely different type of tour and perspective that you won't get anywhere else. Not only does he educate you about coffee growing from the bean to the cup, but he gives you insight into the business side of the world of coffee, from the farmers perspective,... More

I didn't realize how much there was to know about coffee until I took this tour, and here I thought myself a bit of a coffee snob. I went on a $25 tour and found it delightfully enlightening. Okay, I will NOT follow all the new rules but, at least I know what they are now. If you want to... More

Booked the tour by calling the day before. Spoke with Richard who simply said he would pick us up betw 1:50-2pm arrived shortly after 2pm and we hopped in the van with other tour goers. While on the way Rich already starts to educate us and point out points of interest. Before setting and intimate tour with only 11 of... More

We did a coffee tour with Rich at Cafes De La Luna and it was a highlight of our trip. He came to pick us up at our hotel, and brought the full group up to his farm. The coffee plantation is in a gorgeous setting, and Rich walked us all around the farm, showed us how everything works, and... More

Richard was an awesome guide and extremely knowledgable about the coffee industry in Panama and globally. I learned so much! Touring his farm and tasting the coffee is a must-do on your trip.

Since the owner Richard was out of town we were picked up by Gary, who also guided us on the tour. We started off with tea tasting (tea was made of the coffee cherry skins). Gary is also a teacher so he used a more educational approach. We got lots of information about how coffee grows, the picking, roasting and... More
