The atmosphere
Feb 2020 • Couples
The whole area around here has a special feel of authentic / real Oman. The goats around and everywhere, the local children playing around, the colors of the earth and the houses... the castle itself , to us, was one more of others we have seen, but maybe this atmosphere of far away, local, authentic, it gave it a special feeling , as if time had not passed here.

Very nice to see it, and the history behind this castle and the others makes the visit more then worth

Small fort at the edge of the peninsula
Aug 2018 • Solo
It looks very different from how it looked before when there were no other stone buildings around. Today, the fort disappears easily among other houses because it is not situated on any elevated ground and it does not stand out. It is a classic Omani-style fort with the looks from the 18th century and after being repaired.

Sign said open during day, reality it was, like many castles in Oman, closed. Might be the time of year.

Good restored fort
Apr 2018 • Couples
Worth a visit after As Sunaysilah Fort, although latter has the edge. Not too long to spend time here

Lovely little restored fort
Jan 2018 • Friends
We had thought this place was closed , we had read about it as being closed but thought we would go and view it from the outside at least . They said it had a great view over the bay and that is right . We were the only car in the car park , the place was deserted until an Omani with a sour expression on his face came marching up the hill .. 'You must pay one rial ' he said , ok no problem , be delighted to only one rial how cheap , I went back to the car got my two rials and handed it to him , no one rial ...ah ok got it half a rial each ... thank you . ' You must pay before enter ' ... he growled , oh sorry , where is the ticket office ? , he pointed ... it might help if there was a sign marking this surely ? It was amusing to be treated as if my elderly friend and myself were trying to get away with some nefarious activity . I counted ourselves very lucky it was after all open because the castle/ fort tour of this region is very hit and miss with opening times at the whim of whoever is in charge apparently. The fort is small but lovely and worth visiting , try to pay before you go up the hill at the office with no markings so you do not upset anyone . There is a very interesting display of weapons , mostly guns . My thoughts were how trusting the museum is because nothing is secure , the guns that is ..... just loosely hanging from pegs in the walls .

Good view
Aug 2017
While returning back from the Turtle reserve, we stopped at the castle for a visit. However it was closed on the weekend. We clicked a few pictures outside the main entrance and headed back to Muscat.

A visit to a small caste in absence of things to do
Jan 2017 • Friends
We were hoping for a swim at Ras al Hadd beach, but not sure this beach is good for swimming: huge waves and very windy. Or maybe it was just a bad day? Ras al Hadd is a small village with really little going on so a visit to this castle cheered us up.

Not a lot to see
Apr 2017 • Family
Took the 10-minute detour to visit this sleepy-looking village. Didn't seem like a lot to see, so moved on.

Small but interesting fort
Mar 2017 • Couples
This is a small fort but free to enter. We were just driving past so decided to go in. Ended up having a great chat with a nice older local. Well worth a short stop.
