The castle is, as all of the historical buildings in Oman small, but it has its charm and good atmosphere. The man at the entrance office was very welcoming and extremely friendly at us. Inside you can see how people of Oman used to live there in the past.

Taqah Castle is about 45 minutes drive from Salalah. Sympathetically restored, it gives you an insight into the daily lives of the people in 19th century Oman. This was the home of the grandfather of the mother of Sultan Qaboos.
When travelling back to Salalah, take a right turn off the main road and explore the Zero Gravity effect on the road to Tawi Atyar.

We stopped by the castle on way back from the old city. The castle is small with two floors and rooms showcasing the old lives of the people. Not many people visiting the castle. It was a nice stop for us.

A bit off the beaten path but not by much since its just off the main road between Salalah and Mirabat. This great little fort is right in the centre of town and is perfectly restored with great exhibits and explication on how people lived in the area since the 12th century. Its a great stop on your way back from the ruins at Samhan for it allow you to see what the homes would have looked like.

Taqah Castle, the former residence of the Wali (chief) there. opens at 9am. Compared to Nizwa Castle in Muscat it's much smaller. But the exhibits are quite good.

Looking for some respite from the cyclone, we hoped to spend an hour here in line with previous reviews. Unfortunately it was shut, so not opportunity to enjoy what was inside. Surely it must be interesting for people to spend an hour here. I'm a big fan of historical sights but from the outside only Taqah Castle is barely worth the effort (and that's the most positive view from our party of three adults).

unlike a lot of Omani forts this has lots of artefacts scattered around the rooms, so it's easy to imagine how llife was lived , well worth a half hour visit.
