We reached this spot and put our SUV in neutral and then released the brakes. The vehicle started moving and reached a speed of 14 kms/hr!!!
Then we decided to try the other way round! We took a U turn and parked at the same spot (but opposite side of road) with our back facing the inclined road. Again we put the SUV in neutral and the vehicle started moving backwards uphill at a slower speed this time!!!
We did this a couple of times each side and it worked!! The kids were super excited!!
A must visit place and highly recommended!!!

In transit from Mirbat to Salalah, we knew about this place and we Deviated. On the road there is a sign full of stickers announcing that this is the site. You have to put the car with its nose towards the highway and leave it in neutral. The illusion is that you are going up instead of going backwards, but there is no gravity point, it is just an illusion created by the particular shape of the landscape on the road. Curious.

This is definitely an interesting attraction to visit in Salalah. Whatever reasons you hear, may it be the profile of the ground or an illusion or anti-gravity, it is a fact that you will feel that the car is moving up the gradient against the gravitational force. It is just great.
But surprisingly, there are no sign boards, no markings and there are no road guidance to reach the location. If you somehow reach, don't get surprised. There are no sign boards, no crowd and nothing that demarcate the place as a tourist attraction.
Don't expect to find the location yourself by talking to people, very few know it by this name. I would have never found the place without the help of the earlier reviews on TripAdvisor.
To summarize the route, take the road from Salalah to Mirbat, drive about 60 Kms and you will see a police/ military checkpoint. Slowdown and look for a sign board on your right that reads like "11 Km Mirbat" & "63 Km Salalah". Exactly at this point, turn to left and drive for about half a Kilometer. That is the destination you are looking for. Note that there are no sign boards, no crowd and nothing that make this place look like a tourist attraction. This is just a small stretch of the road.
Now comes the interesting part. You drive to the lowest point on the road which is about half a Kilometer away from where you turned. Clearly you will feel that it is the lowest point on the road. Turn off the engine and change the gear to neutral. You will see that the car is moving up the gradient.
If you visit Salalah, make sure that you visit this place.

A natural phenomenon, where your car drives itself when you are in neutral. We visited on the way back from Mirbat to Salalah. The road looks like it is an uphill slope, but put the car into neutral, and you drive forward, rather than back as you would expect. Great fun. When we visited, there were several cars, including us, just driving back and forth along this stretch of road.
If you enjoy wildlife, continue driving up this road towards Tawi Atyar - the road itself eventually loops back to join the main highway route 49. Camels, donkeys, cows and goats all mill along the side of the road. And eagles, and other raptors circle overhead. And, there is a forest of bayobab trees.

If you reach the right spot , it surely exists. We went there twice and drove up the hill and later part of the flat road many times. The 4x4 we were driving went uphill at around 10-15 kmph , but on reaching the flat area picked up speed and reached upto 60 kmph in neutral gear. Truely awesome experience . But no sign boards or location details around the spot indicating the same. The location is on Taqah - Mirbat road , you need to take the left if you are coming from Taqah or right if from Mirbat - around 10-11 kms before Mirbat . It is on the route to Tawi Athir . You need to drive in around 1 km and not enter into the mountainous road. You need to turn around (u-turn ) and just before you reach the flat road put your car into Neutral and enjoy this unique feeling .

Heard about this place which is also called anti gravity point or zero gravity point and was on my list of places to see in Salalah. There is nothing to see there except for the amazing experience of your car defying gravity and moving uphill while in neutral.
There are people that say that it is an optical illusion but it is not. It is something I need to do some online research on. But while in Salalah, you have to experience the feeling this location has to offer.

Find the line on the road and then put your car in neutral. Your car will roll up hill! Eventhough we knew it was an optional illusion we spent 15 minutes enjoying the fun. Worth a try!

It was a late afternoon we visited "the antigravity point". My feeling was the road goes uphill. I pushed into neutral and the car started to move slowly "uphill". I left the car, took a spirit level, put it on the road surface and got the proof.
It is an illusion. The road in reallity goes down but the nature is nice so stop the car and have some fun.

We could experience the zero gravity (I am not aware of the scientific aspects). My car was moving up on Neutral Gear. I was just sitting to hold the steering.

Hi, Presently I am in salalah, Please share the google map location of this place. I am very much interested to visit, thanks in advance.

Anyone ever checked it with a level or something? I'm rather sceptical about this. I'll be visiting Salalah soon and if i get the chance i'll try to debunk this myth. It may fool the eye but it can hardly fool a level.

I have tried this 4 times since 2003 crude way and latest 2014 with gps, i was sure until gps showed an increse of 8m while car was on neutral. If you look from outside the car its like going down hill too
