We spend a couple hours here on an excursion and enjoyed Nizwa Fort. Was a good stop if you are going to one of the other attractions. Allow 2 hours max. The building itself is the attraction, as there is not much inside to see. But you will enjoy it. Lots of history and is a place you should see.... More

A trip to Nizwa is incomplete without a visit to this beautiful, old fortress. If traveling to Nizwa from Muscat, be sure to leave Muscat very early in the day in order to enjoy the markets and souk, as well as the fort

The fort had several interesting placards describing how it was protected with booby traps and other devices. Make sure you take time to view the exhibits on the inside of the fort, the prison, food storage rooms, and magazines.

After a brilliant tour of the Fort at Nizwa ,with its splendidly informative ,notice boards ,in one case giving an un- paralleled history of the geology ,flora and fauna ,etc ,etc it was just too bad for the authorities of this historic place ,that the COFFEE shop in the forts enclosure ,should nearly ALWAYS be closed .. . When visitors... More

It took us over two hours to drive on the Muscat Expressway from our hotel in Muscat. It was an interesting drive through mountains, flat terrain and small villages. There were lots of handicraft especially pottery outside the fort. There was a very small admission charge. The fort was well kept, clearly been restored very well and there was no... More

This fort has been restored, maybe a little over-restored by western standards, but is well worth exploring. The souk is very touristy and not particularly inspiring - the souk in Old Muscat is better.

Nizwa with its Fort and Market are a must when visiting Oman. A 2 hours drive on a very good highway from Muscat will take you there. Parking is very easy. The Nizwa Fort museum is totally worth the entrance. I seldomely walked into such a great museum before. We only had 1.5h for the visit to the Fort (closes... More

They did an exceptional job restoring this historic fort. It's a very worthwhile stop - and all of Nizwa is a must-see for Oman travelers. Come on a Friday morning - early - and stop by the market before 09.00 - then have coffee and dates in the market... then go to the Fort. Beautiful views for photography and they... More

It looks like it is new! Interesting museum inside, great view on the top. We liked it very much and it a must stop when back from Jebel Shams. The souk close to the fort is not large and more for tourists than anything else.
