Spectacular view from the shoulder of the mountain pass, down to the beach 300m below and across the Malcolm inlet to the ghabbat archipelago.
This drive is a 4WD vehicle recommended track roughly hewn into the side of the mountain, so maybe not for the faint hearted, and your 2WD saloon car may take some stone chips and skid on the shale. It’s steeper down to the beach, so at your peril.
That said it is fun getting up there, and if, like us it’s early morning it’s totally deserted, and wonderfully peaceful and rewarding.
Obvious selfie point up there now as the tourist board has put a “I❤️OMAN sign up now to pose against.
Please don’t flock there… enjoy the tranquility.

By the way the road is a cul-de-sac, so no route round. Also I recommend driving on right to the end of the main road to salla ala, then it really is the end of the road!!

Just a little travel outside of khasab accessible by 4x4 or take a safari from a tour company is Khawr Najd. An ideal place to take an elevated view over the Oman/ Arabian fjords. With its long twisting track taking you down to a beach where people fish and camp.
Spectacular views. Don’t forget to visit the small goat herders house near the bottom of the road leading upto the viewpoint.

Khawr Najd is a natural creek close to Khasab City in Musandam Oman. You need a 4WD to visit this place by road. It takes around 10 minutes on road drive to reach the base of mountain behind which this Khawr is situated. 5-7 minutes steep uphill drive on an unpaved road takes you on the top spot (420 meters high) from where a 10-15 minutes down hill drive (again unpaved road) takes you to the Khawr.

Its an excellent spot for overnight camping and in the colder months there are lots of campers around. The scenery from top of mountain is breath-taking beautiful.

A trip to khasab is never complete without a trip up to the lookout point.

Especially at sunset or sunrise.

While the path is doable in a saloon, a raised vehicle is better.

Plz give this review a thumbs up

The whole point of going to khor najd is to see the ocean from above the moutain while coming down. The climb up the mountain is difficult as it is unpaved road with small boulders. Better to go with a four wheel although a few sedans can be seen going up but driven by locals who are well versed with the place.

An easy off road drive, easier with 4 WD though, I suspect it would get busy in winter given the ease to get there.

Some people stop at the beginning of the descent but it's worth the drive down.

Using a tour guide, his 4x4 took us to the top of the winding dirt roads, crevices, boulders, streams, goats, to the vistas of this picture you see above, to the top of the world in Oman....a must see!

The property is really nice. This Atana has better view than the other one. The other one has better facilities though.

Driving a normal car, we hesitated at the bottom of the climb of the dirt track. Actually the climb is easily done with any car and the view at the top is superb. We did NOT try to climb down on the other side and reach the sea, so we cannot confirm that the North West slope can be driven with a 2 wheel drive.

Khor Najd is a deep inlet which provides the only convenient access to the Musandam east coast from Khasab. Access to it is along steep and winding dirt track up a mountainside approached from the southern road out of Khasab past the airport. It is well signposted on the way to Saal Ala. The track is negotiable with a two wheel vehicle but many car drivers might be put off trying as it looks a bit difficult from the tarmac. It would be difficult after rain. You get a great view of the khor as you come over the crest of the mountain (as per picture). The dirt track goes all the way down to the beach. At the bottom there are a few slightly sad looking beach umbrellas on concrete bases and there is quite a lot of rubbish around, mostly form tourists. And goats are a pain. There are no other facilities such as toilets or shops. The beach is used by local fishermen and non of them seem to interested in doing boat trips for tourists. They are attending to their ongoing jobs of getting the boats ready for the next fishing trip or ferrying school kids and passengers to land locked villages elsewhere in the khor. I would imagine that you could enjoy snorkelling off the rocks on the left hand side of the bay. You could probably camp there, like anywhere else in Oman where there is ground without private ownership.
