About
Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society of Astoria The purposes of the Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society of Astoria, Inc. are to encourage, support and maintain Schools, Dramatics, Lectures and Libraries for Czech and Slovak children and children of Czech and Slovak parentage: to maintain a social home for people of Czech and Slovak ancestry, in which the Czech and Slovak cultures may be taught and blended with American traditions and culture. The Society owns and manages the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden. The Society consists of individuals of Czech and Slovak descent and their families who have pledged themselves to work for and promote the purposes for which the Society exists. In the late 1800’s many Czech and Slovaks emigrated from Austria-Hungary, and made their way to America. Many found a home in Astoria, Queens. In 1892, the Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society was formed, named after the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia.

We're in town for a FDNY conference and decided to come here for dinner. Wow, what a cool place. Great beer selection and food was delicious. What was cool is for certain draft beers it's buy one get one free during happy hour!! So four beers for the price of one! Defiantly a place to check out if your in the area! I recommend the Mac and cheese appetizers

What a great place to celebrate the breakup with my girlfriend. I really enjoyed drinking the Blue Moon beer from their draft selection in the Bohemian Garden. The venue has the largest outdoor drinking area in the city. The bartender was very polite and offered me small samples of different Czech beers so i could choose. I tried the Pilsner Beef Goulash from Czech Favorites and it was delicious. The atmosphere was festive. I highly recommend this place.

This place in theory is great, but isn't as "Bohemian" as I had hoped. Food ok. But the 2 times I went it was really no different than any other big bar.

Up until recently we have enjoyed coming to Bohemian Hall & beer Garden over the years for the food and the
service. Unfortunately, after our visit this past Friday, this view has changed for us.
This past Friday our immediate friend brought other friend members to the restaurant who was
visiting from another state. Instead of the usual delightful service and fare we encountered
problems almost at every turn.
The issue started when our reservation for eight was pushed back because of overfilled capacity
and we were forced to wait for more than 30 minutes. We were finally given a round table which
was crowded for a group of eight.
This table was near the middle of the dining area and was surrounded by other large groups
who were quite noisy. Not only were we unable to hear each other, but the bar tender Alex had to ask
each of us to repeat ourselves because she was unable to hear us. The next problem occurred
when half of the order was mixed up and had to be returned. Steak temperatures were wrong,
and the vegetables were cold.
As an overall rating, our experience at your establishment was not near what we had come to
expect from Boheiman Hall & beer Garden. Hopefully you will be able to return to your previous level of excellence.

One time when i was on the keto diet i went to this place. It was dead except for me and one other guy. I asked for a whiskey diet coke, since diet coke has no sugar and you are allowed to have very little sugar. I told this man whose name was Alex multiple times it has to be diet coke. I made it very clear.
He brings me the drink and it tastes.....not like diet coke. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and drank half of it. He comes back around and says "would you like another one? Whiskey ginger beer right?" I said "no....whiskey diet coke". He then tells me he poured me a whiskey ginger beer, which is full of sugar and it threw me out of ketosis and ruined my diet.

Disgusting. All I wanted was a fresh cold beer and the bar tender Alex was trying to force me to have a pre made beer. Warm and pre poured, is that what you call service?! I have never been to a place that denies to draft a fresh pint for you in front of your eyes. What are they hiding? Or what old stock are they trying to get rid off?! I asked him again for a fresh draft and he said if I didn’t take it the bouncer would remove me. That is exactly what happened. There is no excuse for the way I was treated. Hate from expecting average service or hate from the colour of my skin! 🏳️🌈 🏳️🌈 This place deserves only failure

Very bad service , most drinks on the menu weren’t available .
The staff were rude and not flexible we asked reduce the ice on the cocktail and alex the indoor bar attender had side convo with his collègues and refused to serve us
We felt discriminated and bullied .

My girlfriend and I visited this bar in June of this year and found the staff unwelcoming and rude. The name we recall is Alex. We were served the wrong beverage and politely stated that. We were told “well that’s not what you ordered” which definitely wasn’t true, but even if they believed that, that’s not an appropriate way to respond to a customer. It was not a 24 carat gold beverage, just a simple drink. We are both in the customer service industry and know that we would lose our jobs if we acted this way with customers. We have never experienced this.

To cut to the chase, the facts are this: the wait staff can't be bothered. One young lady spent her time leaning up against the counter at the far end of the garden, yawning, and only went to a table when someone told her to. The waiter that came over to our table told us to go to the grill and order our food ourselves, as every ticket that he was putting in was getting lost. So, that is what we did. We waited a good half hour for our food, while people who ordered the same items after us were served before us. When we did get out food, we sat down to eat overcooked sausages, with stale bread ($12.00 for two links), uncooked potato salad - that's right - the potatoes in the salad were still sixty percent raw, and very watery red cabbage. The place is a disaster! STAY AWAY!

I went here on a Friday night with three friends/family members. All of us are native New Yorkers, born and raised in Queens, from immigrant families. I had been to this place twice before in the summer time and enjoyed it. However, this time from the moment we walked in we were given dirty stares and were closely watched. We decided to go into the bottom floor where it was warmer. The waitress was horrible, and very mean and uninviting towards us. I was born and raised in this borough, and prior to this, I had never felt such overt discrimination especially in 2019, amongst a younger crowd. I would definitely think twice before going here and supporting a business that despite being in the most diverse area, is so overtly not inclusive. Shame on you bohemian beer hall.

Hello Cristine, I would like to first give you my sincerest apology for your bad experience. Bohemian Hall is founded by Czech immigrants, and the majority of our diverse staff are immigrants as well. I looked into your visit here via security footage and interviewing all employees that worked the evening in question.
As a result of a thoughtful investigation, the employee you are referring to has been terminated.
I do believe that your bad experience was a result of poor service and not discrimination. Discrimination of any kind is not and will never be tolerated here. Neither will terrible service. I truly hope that you will give us another chance to show you a great experience like the one you had the first two times you visited us.
