A spectacular, beautiful dune, the highest on earth: 383m (1 256 ft)! Experience it on your own! Drive there alone or with family, it is only 13km from Walvisbaai. If you want to, pack water and a picnic basket, climb it at your own pace or just enjoy the view at the bottom. Once in a lifetime experience!

What a dune. I've climbed dudes before, but never one this huge. Good exercise. I took my time on the climb and didn't get winded or fatigued. I brought bottled water with me. Great view from the top. There were a fewer other people in various stages of the climb and descent. I was here in the morning.

Quad biking over and through the majestic sands in the desert, what a perfect way to end the day. Our guide was brilliant and quads in good condition. Nice friendly people and great fotos to be taken. A few surprises along the way by our guide but won't let them out. Go do it yourself

Amazing experience. The climb can be a bit tough, we are quite fit and still had a bit of a struggle but it only took about 20 minutes. When you reach the top you will definitely realise it's worth the climb! Perfect spot for photographs! Getting down is the easy part and only takes about 5 minutes.
Don't even try to use the bathrooms, it's absolutely horrid! Rather go to the restaurant and ask to use the theirs.

The Dune 7 in Walvis Bay , Namibia is a wonder. The expansive swathed of high sand dunes just adjacent and parallel to the Atlantic Ocean coastline is a convergrnce of two extremes -the Atlantic Ocean and the Namib Desert. The two ecosystems create a cool environment under an otherwise scorching desert sun. Climbing the dune to the peak is no mean task, but watching 7 year olds do it clearly is an inspiration to try, soldier on and conquer .. I did. I met friends from Iceland at the peak. Yes, people from Iceland at the peak of a Namib desert dune! It was an experience to behold. There is no need at all to use any travel agent for this adventure. The Dune 7 is straight forward. Drive yourself there or simply take taxi. No fee is charged at the site .. Namibian Govt is clearly leaving money on the table. However next to the Dune 7 is the Dune 7 adventure. The only facility at the site where one can enjoy very good meals and cold drinks, catch up with friends via free WiFi.. take a shower , do quad bike rides to the expansive desert and the dunes. This is no doubt , the Namibia's ' great pyramids'.

We decided to stay late to watch the stars after sunset , we went for a miniature hike after go karting. The go kart experience was nothing short of amazing - went for an hour around the dunes , definitely recommend it , we got back down to where our car was parked at around 8pm . We had parked right infront of Dune 7 adventures . We felt a little uneasy about safety , and as we were at the car getting the sand out of our shoes , a guy walked towards us from inside dune 7 adventures , where they were closing and we could vaguely see about 2/3 other guys inside cleaning or packing . The guy walked towards us as if he was going to come say something, at this point we were the only car parked , so we quickly closed the doors and started the car , and the driver window was down a bit in case the guy wanted to say something , he ultimately came quite close to the drivers side , hovered there a little while , didn’t say anything and just walked off as we sped off too . When we looked back , he just put on his hood and kept walking towards us .

This was obviously a little bit strange . We assumed the guy walked there but found it odd that he walked towards us and didn’t say anything , just a warning to everyone to remain vigilant somehow as you are in the desert and there is no guarantee for safety . We are from South Africa and we just assumed we’d be okay , I think we definitely felt we weren’t and just putting this up there so that anyone else can be on high alert if also tempted to star gaze after sunset .

Wow the experience of my life. You need to climb Dune 7 should you go to Walvisbay. It is very steep and the biggest dune in the world. I ask my wife to marry me on top of Dune 7

Unlike most travelers in Namibia, we did not have our own transport and had to rely on public transport, the taxi/cabs with numbers on the side. The cabs come in all shapes and sizes and are recognisable by the numbers on the side of the vehicle or most of the time they will honk at you if they have space available. Please note, they take as many passengers as they can in the vehicle, often stopping to pick someone else up along route, while the fares are per person. Generally speaking, travelling anywhere within Walvis Bay costs N$24 per person. Travelling to Swakopmund, 43km / 40min costs N$45 per person. The cab drivers have no meters, so be sure to negotiate the price of the trip before getting in and obviously they will try and rip off tourists, but if you let them know that you know what the locals pay and will rather use another taxi, they will take you for the local price. Getting to Dune 7 and back we each paid N$50 for the return ride. We had bought a Namibian Sim card, so could just call our driver from the Dune when we were done, to come and fetch us. by this time we had saved at least two different drivers' numbers in case one of them was busy.
So, apart from the Cab fare, visiting Dune 7 is FREE! well, we went to the free picnic area at the base of the dune. There is an activity centre close by ,but we opted for the free experience. We arrived around 11 am and it was still very misty/foggy, which was great for climbing the big dune, as I can just imagine how gruelling it must be in the heat of the sun. It took us about 25 min to get to the top, with two rest stops on the way up. once on top, we took loads of cool pics and the fog pulled back towards the coastline, revealing the splendour of the desert around us.
Spectacular, well worth a visit!

Spent most of the day in the Namib desert, which had little sand but a moon like landscape of hard rock. We had the sand and so much of it as we approached Düne 7.
The dunes were massive.
Many climbed and became dots on the horizon I watched, for I find ploughing through sand energy sapping.
It is staggering to see. And no doubt has splendid views for those who reach the top.
A wonderful natural beauty.
