About Catamaran Charters
From meeting pelicans to viewing playful seals and, if luck permits, leaping dolphins and shy turtles - all this and more on our daily morning educational dolphin and seal cruises. We depart at 09h00 (check-in 08h30) every morning from our Jetty at the Walvis Bay Waterfront for a marine educational sightseeing tour in the bay area in search of the marine big 5: Whales, Dolphins, Mola, Leatherback turtle and seals. While serving hot coffee and tea, our initial route takes us past oyster farms to Pelican Point with its landmark lighthouse and 60,000 resident Cape Fur Seals. In season (July to November), larger mammals such as the Southern Right Whale and Humpback Whales are often spotted. Bottlenose, Heaviside and Dusky dolphins are regularly seen, as are Mola Molas and Leatherback Turtles. Our journey from Pelican Point takes us past some of the more interesting ships and oil rigs in the bay as we serve fresh oysters with sparkling wine, savoury snacks and desserts.

Great entertainment, in particular when the 'crowd' is in good mood. Monica, our guide, Lennart the skipper and his team had a wonderful way with the guests. Very informative, lots of excellent photo opportunities. Great chance to just lay back and relax after many "km's" of travelling on road. This organization is really recommendable.....

Quite expensive, but absolutely worth it, even the teens enjoyed it! Our guide, Andries, as well as the other crew members were friendly and very knowledgeable. Food and drinks were very nice. Met travellers from other countries which made it even more interesting. Dress warm, even in December!

Our Namibian guide had arranged this tour for us aboard the catamaran Dream Chaser. On boarding the boat we selected seats near the bow on the right hand side. Several of the large African pelicans were on board. Upon leaving the dock the crew explained about them and fed them. Then unexpectedly a seal had jumped aboard and slid past my legs getting them wet when traversing from the side of the boat to the front. The crew then explained abut the seals and gave him a few fish before he jumped back overboard and most of the pelicans flew off, with one remaining for the rest of the trip. He was very friendly, walked freely about, and added immensely to the experience. In the open water were many seals floating on their backs sleeping with their fins in the air. We then crossed the bay to a long sandbar where there were large seal and flamingo colonies which were described. The harbor was full of shipping including laid up offshore oil rigs and their service boats from a decline in drilling activity in nearby Angola. We then ventured a short distance into the open ocean where we saw a large Mola (moonfish) right next to shore. These fish are usually found mainly in the open deep ocean. Then back through the harbor past boats. Somewhere along the way oyster farming was described. We were served fresh oysters, champagne, and canapes, making for a delightful lunch. The resident pelican was then fed a few fish before he flew off. All in all, just an excellent trip that combined wildlife, shipping, and an excellent lunch all of which I'm interested in. And the close-up pelican and the seal just made the trip all that more special!

2nd time going on this trip and it was better than the first. Very knowledgeable guide, she was open to answering all questions. The food and drinks were lovely too. The dolphins put up a show for us. Got up close with the seals; even saw one having a massive fish for breakfast. I personally don’t like the pelicans much, but it was great for those who do. I would definitely recommend the boat trip with Catamaran Chaters .
