We visited the Kristall Gallery on a Saturday afternoon, almost out of embarrassment, because everything else in town had already rung in the weekend. Admission per person 30 N$.
Part of the exhibition is the largest crystal in the world.
The exhibition most closely resembles an offer to sell. Gemstones and semi-precious stones from Namibia are on display. I didn't take much added value in knowledge with me.

The museum contains an interesting collection of minerals and stones. The exhibits are provided in a wide variety of sizes and colors. The gallery contains a unique quartz crystal, discovered in Namibia in 1985 at the bottom of a cave 45 meters deep, it weighs 14,100 kg, it took three years to dig and pull it out of the cave, while it is the largest in the world. The museum has a mini cave, which you can walk through and discover different minerals in its walls, very interesting and educational. The gallery has a store where you can buy jewelry and stones.

6 weeks before coming to Swakupmund we were in the Natural History Museum in London. We spent sometime there looking at the displays of rocks and minerals. We thought we might pass half an hour in Kristall Galerie, then we went in. About an hour and a half later we came out. Our conclusion, the Natural History Museum in London should learn from Kristall Galerie how to display rocks and minerals.

I love rocks and minerals and it was a wonderful place for me. The place has two parts: a museum, entrance fee and I could take photos, and the shop, free but no photos. It is an impressive place and could be located in New York or London.

We were going to skip this as it didn't look like a tourist attraction from the outside.
We decided to visit it after seeing that it was highly rated and recommended on TA.
I'm glad we did. Very interesting and impressive displays of various crystal formations.

Kristall Galerie is a wonderful place. I was tempted and bought an expensive and very beautiful necklace. I was given all the paper work to obtain my VAT refund on departure from the airport. At the airport customs accepted all my papers, stamped everything and then told me they could not process it now but I would get my refund to my credit card in about 4 months!! Eight months later and no sign of a refund despite writing to Tax Refund Namibia, Kristall Galerie and the Namibian Embassy in London. All of whom did not even reply. So don't factor in your VAT refund when deciding what you want to pay for your lovely piece of jewellery because you won't get it - but my advice is to buy it anyway. It will be worth it.

Dear Lynette150,
Thank you for your honesty.
Still you give a wonderful review.
Thank you!
We strive to make your viewing and stay memorable with us, but cannot tolerate bad communication or the lack thereof from our side.
Could you please send me any details regarding your Vat Refund scenario.
I would like to rectify the problem, so that my next customer would not suffer the same fate.
Regards,
JC Kleynhans

Amazing place, that take your breath away. All sort of cristalls to be viewed and how jewellery is made. 3 Curios shops . awesome view outside when you buy a pack and pick up your own polished stones.

I was knocked out! Situated on a corner in the town centre of Swakopmund, big rocks of crystal outside the gallery/museum give a hint of the marvels within. It is not a big museum but the impeccable presentation is 5-star in quality and imagination- very impressive, modern and state-of-the-art.Do not miss it! Up there with the best, in Namibia, or anywhere! The giant quartz crystal conglomerate is gigantic - the biggest in the world and took five years to excavate (if I recall correctly). But it was the geodes that knocked me out - especially the rocks of amethyst crystals - and all the other gems. The dark cave passage with back-lit crystals added to the experience. DO NOT MISS THIS!

We popped in there to escape the heat on the street, and what a pleasant surprise. They offer a very wide variety of over life sized crystals, smaller crystals, and hand made items of crystals. We bought a few big rock crystals for bookshelf holders, and they were between N$ 400-700. They also created a cave walkway with many crystals imbedded into the rocks. Children will love it, but i found it just as interesting, and loved the jewelry.

I loved this place. It's a small museum worth a visit for sure if you're into seeing the amazingness that lies beneath the ground in Namibia. The visit takes less than an hour and shows the variation of crystals/gems the country has and the largest crystal found on earth is there which is actually cooler in reality than you expect. Don't miss the gem shop in the middle of the museum--wow! If my husband wasn't with me I would have emptied my bank account but the pieces I did get I completely trusted I got a fair price for good quality.

1. Who funds your attraction, how the attraction is funded.
2. The government bodies that protect/ preserve the attraction.

I really dont know to be honest. The building was in very good condition. There were security guards around the building. The exhibits were well lighted. It could be Government funded like the Aquarium I am not sure. The gift shop is just amazing and we enjoyed the whole experience.
