When I've thought of Namibia, I think of deserts, dunes and the coast. Thus I knew a plane ride was going to be a requisite part of the trip: if I was traveling all the way to Namibia, it didn't matter to me what the extra cost would be as I knew this would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We rode in a 4 seater plane with an excellent female pilot trained in Germany. This will be one of my most treasured memories until I die: seeing Big Daddy and Dune 45 by air, then an abandoned German mining camp, a shipwreck, the changing colors of sand, and of course the Atlantic Ocean with a portion of the Diamond Coast. We took a 2 hour ride from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund and others in our group chose to drive the distance. I'm sure our experiences are not comparable.

The two hour flight over the Namib and along the Skeleton Coast was an incredible addition to the geologic tour of that brought me to Namibia. The aerial view of the Swakop River Valley was spectacular! The vastness of the Namib dune sea and the beauty of the desert pans was incredible from the air. I thoroughly enjoyed the view of the coast, the seal colony, the huge flamingo flocks, and the hidden skeletons in the sand and sea. The pilot was competent and took care that we had the opportunity to see the sights and photograph, flying at the appropriate altitude for safety and visibility of the sights.

Did the flight over Skeleton Coast. It was a smooth flight and the views from the plan was spectacular. Only downside was the plane was flying a bit too fast. Hence, it is not easy to get good pictures. It is also pretty pricey.

It was an amazing experience to discover the Namibian desert by air.
A huge thanks to the team and particularly Carien for all the support and advice!
By air, it's really an unique experience to discover all the landscape. If you're not use to it or don't like long discovery flight you can booked a 1 hour session.
And book in advance, if you want to do it in July/ august.

We booked the 1h flight over the Namib desert and it was amazing. The whole organisation beforehand was really good, they organized everything according to our needs and were super helpful amd friendly.
The flight itself was definately worth the price. I can recommend it without any doubt

Did the 2 hour flight covering Sossusvlei and the Skeleton Coast. Scenery was jaw droppingly beautiful and the flight was amazingly smooth given the desert heat. I was lucky enough to sit on the right side of the plane which gives you an advantage down in Sossusvlei as there are limits on the route given local air traffic. Would definitely recommend.

I have flown over one million miles, and have seen a lot of beautiful sceneries from the air. I also took several balloon and helicopter rides. The flight with Scenic Air is undoubtedly the most amazing one. My pictures can explain why. When I did search for Skeleton Coast, I was fascinated by the beautiful pictures composed by half ocean and half desert wall, but the pictures on the Internet cannot describe its beauty for one thousandth. Not only that, the flight gave us so many diverse views: echelon of flying flamingos, hundreds of seals lying on the desert cliff bathed under the sun, emerald Lagoons, a shipwreck (you can see two if you hire longer flights), desert cliffs, endless ocean with endless desert on the other side, colorful patched salt pans, mist lingered along the sea shore, etc. none of them can be easily seen in other places even from the air.

Scenic Air provided better services on the phone than the other two companies. We managed to get half what we needed to pay if we hired another company.

We were here with a cruise and this was an extra option so I don't know how much it would normally cost.

We arrived and were introduced to our pilot and given very brief instruction before heading out to the plane. We had six planes in all with the group. The plane was a 6 seater which included the pilot and everyone sat right next to a window.

It was a great way to see the different landscapes and geology of the region, and see the dunes from the sky before heading out over the water and running along the coast line to see lots of seals and the occasional wreck.

It was quite hot up there and we were given ear plugs which helped reduce the engine noise, not something I have been given before on a small plane but quite a good idea.

The pilot occasionally shouted some information about the route having given us a map with numbers he would tell us what number we were flying over, pretty much in number order, so we could follow it on the map.

Good flight, nice pilot and a great way to see the landscape from a different perspective.

We flew with Raymond. He was an amazing pilot! the one hour flight was the perfect amount for us. Seeing the sand dunes via air is a MUST. But the coast, and the seals, and flamingo colonies.. fantastic!
Highly recommend! The 7 seater plane makes it more affordable too
