About Tommy's Tours and Safaris
The original Living Desert/Little 5 Tour! 08h00 to 13h30 from Swakopmund in our 4x4's: we go into the dune/gravel plains area to track the little creatures - snakes, chameleons, geckoes, lizards, scorpions, insects, etc - and also give info on the desert in general, the area's plants and minerals. Dune drive through to the sea. Scenic and educational.

A fantastic day for our family. Child and teen friendly, very interesting and proffesional. Chantelle Bosch is really an excellent tourguide with an impressive knowledge of the enviroment, geography, climate, geology and the big range of geckos, spiders, snakes, birds, scorpios and many other animals we saw. We did the full day tour which include the moon landscape, the rock formations in the Swakop riverbed and the welwitchias. We experience the diversity of the Namib from the dunes near the sea to the mountains and even a beautiful oasis.

This was an amazing experience learning to appreciate all the small unseen miracles of nature which the desert has to offer. Chantelle was an excellent guide and she opened our eyes to how fragile and unique this ecosystem is. The kids loved it, especially the interaction with the birds, beetles, spiders, gecko's, lizards and even the snakes. The anticipation as the guide showed the tracks and signs and finally finding these hidden little creatures was so exciting for all of us. An adventurous dune drive and beautiful views of the sand dunes and the endless Atlantic ocean was the perfect ending to an unforgettable tour. As locals we are so privileged that we could discover these hidden gems and now have a much greater appreciation for this area.

We did the half day desert tour. There were mostly women in the group. We were all appalled by the constant sexist jokes about women, even a couple of stereotypical blonde ones thrown in. I thought I was listening to Benny Hill in 1960. Just not acceptable. Several of us were ready to leave after half an hour. We finally asked him to stop and were told to just relax. Really? He stopped doing it but then told a shocking racist joke which doesn't bear repeating. Couldnt quite believe it. His constant yacking was boring and not at all funny. We complained to the manager who responded that he had no problem with women...completely missing the point. There have been similar complaints on trip advisor for several years so clearly he doesn't care what his clients think. If you think mocking women and black people is funny, this is the trip for you.

Response from KitCollard, Manager at Tommy's Tours and Safaris

Hi Stephen Thank you again for your feedback! Again, apologies that you found the experience so unpleasant. In Tommy's defence he is a people-person and certainly does not mean offence; he just loves to make people laugh. Obviously he is doing it the wrong way. He is not sexist and he is not a racist, and the majority of people enjoy the tour, as you will see by the majority of positive reviews, and countless guests come back and ask to be with Tommy specifically 3, 4 , 5 times. I will again draw his attention, but he has mentioned he will be making changes.
