After a walking tour of the Medina, we were released for time on our own. I decided to visit the fishing port. Walking towards the port I encountered the fish market. Consisting of two legs at right angles, the stalls generally alternated between those selling fish and those preparing the fish for eating. There were more varieties of fish than I have ever seen before. While tempted by some of the unusual items, I had been having a queasy stomach for several days, so I decided not to risk eating anything and simply enjoyed all the grilled fish smells.

reach here a bit late and since that is friday. many stalls/shops closed. but still interesting on how they cut open the fish and feel seagulls sometimes. i don't take seafood here as seem expensive but just buy some fried fish at outside that is tasty. and near around getting fish stalls at night time. that has lots of diff type for choice. locals and tourists also busy for dealing with it. insteresting

I highly recommend that NOT to get in the restaurant in the fish market. We visited a restaurant because a man (wears Nike on the picture) talked to us in English, he explained the system how to order though, No MENU even we asked him to give us the menu. Anyway the staff didn't remove the scales from fish, And just grilled fish. Unfortunately we payed Cooking Charge that's the shame. The taste that we manage to eat (hard to eat because just grilled) were not bad and also fresh fish actually. It cost 130DH whole, 50DH fish, 2 tea, 2 coffee and horrible cooking charge. That's too expensive. To be conceivable that 1.5 times price as an average.

The fish market at Essaouira is an amazing place. Muddy, chaotic, bustling, it is a wonderful assault on all your sense!. Countless species of fish and other marine creatures (sea urchins, oysters, sea snails, limpets, etc.) are brought in by the local fishermen fresh each day. You can buy almost any type of seafood you desire and there are several little stands that will cook your purchase on the spot. We ate lunch there three times during our visit – fresh oysters and sea urchin, grilled sardines, grilled sea bream, eel and several other fish I had never heard of. Truly a great experience and the highlight of our trip to Morocco.

We went here for a dive fish lunch at the market. Waited half an hour for service. All three pieces of fish were overcooked beyond recognition. Final price for two people was 275 dhiram. After not being able to explain the pricing, the dude there threw up his hands and said he'd settle for 240. The price of a real restaurant. Zero stars if i could.
