The Christmas Fair takes place on the Vörösmarty Square in the center of the city which turns, for a few weeks, into a Winter Market, placed in front of the famous Gerbeaud Coffee House, at the end of the pedestrian street Vaci. Sound, lights and flavors unite the large number of people into a very festive crowd. The scent of Hungarian honey cookies, mulled wine, cinnamon makes everyone feel the celebration of Christmas with all one's senses. The lighting of candles on the Advent Wreath is accompanied by choral singing and all day long you will be tempted by the Hungarian culinary specialties like the stuffed cabbage rolls, roasted goose, foie gras, as good as the French one, grilled paprika sausages and a lot of other Christmas dishes. Wooden stalls and outdoor stages allow craftsmen and artists to show their talent. It is the place where you can buy original hand-crafted gifts for your family and friends. The Fair's visitors will be entertained by folk, jazz, blues, soul, crossover, world music concerts, dance house performances.

The Gnaoua Festival is a great introduction to Gnaoua music if you don't know it but also features international jazz and world music performances, all run efficiently in readily accessible venues and brings a real buzz to Essaouira; enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. A...More

My husband and I returned to the festival after a 6 yr absence. It is now bigger and the emphasis is still on the gnaoua but international artists are taking the lead as well. Superb acoustics, superb artists and a most enjoyable and cultural experience....More

We were in Essaouira for a couple of nights and happened to coincide completely unplanned with the festival. We saw a warm up the night before the festival officially started and the first night. Whilst we didn’t artistically appreciate or have any awareness of the...More

Great atmosphere, though a bit overcrowded. "bon enfant" spirit but it was so great to listen to so many different bands at the same time. I am looking for the next opportunity to get back to Essaouira during the festival!

Our itinerary prepared by Enjoy Tours:Transport Touristique included Essaouira, but we had no idea that there would be a music festival there. Yes, we are 65 years old, but we would attend any music venue in the world. We have a history of music in...More

We started with the parade of musicians and enjoyed the music and dancing of all the different groups in the streets of Essaouira. This was a pretty new experience of music! The next days we visited different concerts, small ones, big ones all for free....More

The festival was amazing! The organizers were actually organized (which doesn't always happen) and there were several stages with staggered performances. Most of the festival was free as well. I personally loved the smaller more intimate traditional gnaoua performances (for which you had to pay...More

The performances were fantastic, the audience mostly locals. Imagine being on a huge beach with thousands of Berbers, not at all crowded, singing along to Bob Magreb, who did Marley covers: "Everything Is Gonna Be Alright." Music in the streets was best, with musicians jamming...More

I plan to go there this year for my first time. So I don't know how important it is to buy tickets fast! I received an e-mail from them. They say the tickets will be available in the beginning of may!
