Beautiful Beach with Horse & Camel Rides & Historic Ruins

This is the section of beach in Essaouira that is past Essaouira Beach and found by walking away from the Essaouira Medina. You will find surfing and wind surfing; you will have an opportunity to buy a horse or camel ride (do not pay more than 300 dirhams: $30). It is likely that the camel or horse will bring you to the historic ruins further down Plage Tagharte toward the town Diabat. There is the 18th century watchtower called Bordj El Berod. From a distance it looks like a jetty or a wrecked ship but you can make out the crenellated top of the ruined bastion. Further inland by taking a left at the river and then uphill to the right you will find the Dar Sultan Castle or "White House" which is tricky to find because it is almost completely covered with sand. There is must to discover here and a great time to do it is around sunset.
