The Pasar Payang Market has moved into a large new building with everything on one level ( rather than 4-5 levels in previous market. Building is massive and 3 stories high but stalls are only on ground floor and rest of height is open. Appear to be less stalls than the previous market. There are food stalls at the back of the market and a market for some fresh food is in a smaller area to the north ( although fish is sold in the main building. Good range of items to buy.

The dessert store is named Snowybowl Cafe. It is a very small store along Chinatown. It mainly serves desserts like snow bowl which comes in variety of flavour. The taste is quite good and it is a very good place for gathering.

It was sad to see the turtle eggs being sold. Especially when this town actually dedicated an alley for turtles and to save their eggs. This market is huge and crowded. However all stalls/booths sell the same stuff. The food section would have turtle eggs, keropok lekor, the packets of keropok, serunding and other snacks. There are rows of booths selling batik and songket too.

This is an interesting place and somehow reminded me of Talat Tonlamyai in CNX albeit Tonlamyai is more of a Thai twist while this is more of Terengganu local twist. However, what really sadden me is, in this market, the selling of turtle eggs are allowed and it is very unfortunate that the Terengganu state government and Malaysian federal government allows this detrimental trade to be alive and persists. The banned on selling of turtle eggs only applies to the Leatherback turtle, but fyi, Leatherback turtle hasn’t been landing or seen in waters around Terengganu and its surrounding island for years. The last time I’ve seen one during scuba diving was in the year circa 2000s.

Few years ago, the vendors are selling their products under the canopy along the roadside. Now they have moved to an indoor building. It is cleaner and cooler. But they have used to throwing the rubbish every where. Some of the vendors are rude and not friendly. If you have no intention to buy from the stall, DON’T ask the price! They will pull a long face at you.

Nothing special here. A lot of kerepoks, house coats and toys. You buy a lot but still the same price. Can't bargain and they don't smile at all...at last u don't feel happy.

Revisit for the first time this year. Road to pasar is congested as usual. Or maybe due to school holidays. Couldn't park at the multistorey carpark as it was full. Actually better to park at open carpark about 100m from pasar. Easier to enter and exit from this carpark.
Had a late brunch at the food court in the middle of pasar. Prices for food and drinks are reasonable. Can try local delicacies and other Malaysian food such as roti bakar, roti goyang, nasi ayam, nasi dagang, etc.
Be properly dressed as that pasar is quite hot. Some shop owners have airconditioners at their shoplots. Most have fans to cool themselves and shoppers.
Groundfloor offers mostly fresh produce, packed foods and tidbits. Local batik clothes, sarongs, shirts, etc can be found on the first floor. Most transactions are cash only. Some shops accept credit cards if you make significant purchases. Expect to spend at least 2 hours here.

The various shops above the market offers a wide variety of "batik" and "songket". Prices are much cheaper than everywhere else in Malaysia. Just need some patience and persistence to bargain. Friendly sellers.

You'll go crazy over the stalls selling keropok. Bring along your fish dictionary because there's many type of fish crackers, prawn crackers and squid crackers. But please avoid the turtle eggs. They are endangered species.
