We hired a taxi in Kuching to take us there & back. Took about 2 hrs to drive there, but an interesting drive once you get to the countryside. We decided against the Longhouse experience, just the Hot Springs. On arrival, it was just as we had seen in the photos. Very undeveloped, with good paths from the road down to the toilet/changing room building. Standing on top of the riverbank looking across the river to the hot springs - I was so pleased that we went out of our way to go there. Climb down the riverbank, look very carefully up & down the river (those crocs are everywhere in Borneo), and wade across to the pool. The river was quite swift but it's shallow so didn't feel too scary. We didn't swim - sat on the side & soaked our tired knees & feet. There is a small pool but that looked pretty filthy so didn't bother with that.

Since I was on my long Gawai holiday recently, I took an opportunity to visit Annah Rais Hotsprings with my parents and cousins. It is only about 1 hour drive from Kuching city. From Kuching city, please take the road to Borneo Highlands Resort. We went during week day where there were not many visitors there too.
The entrance fee is RM5.00 per person. To reach the hotspring, it took 5 minutes walk through a village farm. The river is very clean with clear crystal water. The hotspring area is in the river itself and the area is being walled for easy access to all visitors. You can take a dip in the hotspring then jump into the river besides it to cool yourself down. This makes Annah Rais Hotsprings very special because it is hotspring in the river. Anyway, the hotspring here is not very hot as compare to those in Poring Hotspring in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and the sulfure smell is not very strong too.
Please remember to bring your own foods where you could have a picnic near the river. Before you leave, keep the place clean by throwing your rubbish into the rubbish bins provided.
I love nature and this place is very peaceful! I would recommend you to visit Annah Rais Hotspring!

I've been there for quite a few times.
I would recommend people to go during non-public holidays.
The first time I've been there was a public holiday. The water seems to be dirty, however I went upstream where the water is really clear and nice to soak in..
And you'll see a lot of people soaking in the hot spring water, which you might not get the chance to squeeze in.
The second time I went was with my friends. It wasn't a public holiday.
So there were not as much people as I've seen during public holidays.
The water is so clear and warm. And it's so relaxing there, that you don't have to squeeze with people. =D

Annah Rais Hotsprings is located the Padawan District. It is about 1 hour - 1.5 hours drive from Kuching City. The road heading up to the hotsprings from Annah Rais longhouse used to be quite uneven with large potholes here and there, but it is all good and well-tarred now.
Entrance fee is RM5 per person. Basic shower stalls and changing rooms are available but there aren't that many stalls to begin with. It is best to rough it out and just rinse yourself at the open shower outside the stalls after your dip in the hotsprings or river.
The hotsprings are actually in / beside the river itself. The area is walled up to stop the hot water from flowing away. There are 3 pools in total and I do think that the water in the hotsprings is really hot (not boiling hot, but hot enough to make your skin turn reddish pink). Which is good, cuz that's why we are here for in the first place anyway.
But if you are not a big fan of hot water, then the river itself will be fun for you too. The water is clean and cool. But do take extra care when waddling in the river for the current can be quite fast.

We set out our journey from Kuching city to Annah Rais Hotspring on a Monday morning. We had Kolok Mee for breakfast at the 7th mile Kota Sentosa (but Aik Joo Kopitiam with the best Kolok Mee closes on Mondays), before continuing to the 10th mile Kota Padawan. It took us less than 1 hour and 30 mins to reach the destination. There were quite a few other kampungs (villages) on the way but do not turn unless you see those prominent brown signboards for Kampung Annah Rais along the road.
The lady in charge at the longhouse ticket booth advised us to go to Annah Rais Hotspring first because it always rains in the afternoon. So we drove on for another 6 mins to reach the hotspring. It costed RM5/ adult and RM3/kid. Along the walk path to the hotspring from the carpark, we saw pineapple, rambutan, cempedak, cocoa, banana and durian trees. When we reached the hotspring, and because it was a weekday, we had the whole place to ourselves. The river was freezing cold, with crystal clear water. We saw various shapes and colours of pebbles (good for foot massaging), school of little fishes, bees and red dragonflies. The hotspring was not as hot as those in Taipei but we felt the tinkling pokes on our legs. There were bubbles released from the ground but there was no sulfur smell. It was fun switching from cold river to hotspring and vise verse. It was also very relaxing to listen to the birds singing and the water flows.
These was nothing much to eat though so it is advised to bring along some food and drinking water. And unfortunately all 5 of the shower heads were spoiled. Other than that, we really had a fun morning at the hotspring and river.

Took the opportunity to check out the Hot Spring after a tour of Annah Rais Longhouse. The hot spring spot can be found on a few spot on the river floor. The community had built a pool surrounding the spot to contained the hot water to be enjoy by the visitor. The water inside the pool are quiet hot and be advise that you need to feel the hotness of the water before dipping in. The water outside the pool is cool and crystal clear. You can have the place all to yourself during the weekdays.

Just under an hour by car from Kuching. The springs are pools (concreted) on the edge of the river. A short wade across the cold water can be a trick if you don't step carefully. I went base over apex in the cold water. Embarrassing is not the word!
Into the body broiling water of the springs to invigorate and refresh tired leg muscles.
Back across the cold river to land. My poor jeans were soaked and a "parang" - long bladed extremely sharp knife - was used to remove the offending wet legs. (Much to the amusement of partner, driver and people there.)
Not the best hot springs I've been to but still put it on your list if you've never been.

As we went during a weekday the hot springs were completely empty and it was just my partner and I bathing in them. The small hot spring was fairly hot, hot enough to probably burn you and thats why we didn't step into that one. The larger one was luke warm where we spent most of our time, the flowing river just beside it is very clean and contains small fish. Watch out for the spiders which rest on the wet rocks near the river beds!
Roughly 1h15m scenic drive from downtown.

We came on Wednesday (after our visit to Semenggoh Wildlife Reserve) and were the only party until another group arrived an hour later. Otherwise, we had the whole place to ourselves, Of the two areas of hot springs, the smaller (and downstream) area is hotter. But the temperature is not hot enough to boil/cook an egg. On a hot and humid day, the cool stream water was most soothing and welcome. It seems that this attraction has not yet generated enough business for the cafe; we were told that the cafe had not opened for the past 3 months. So do come prepared with food as the nearest food outlet is a long way off; the ticket attendant at the entrance also sold soft drinks.

I suppose that this is a hot spring by the river, therefore i would like to know whether if it is appropriate for us to visit the hot spring on the next day after a heavy rain.
Will the river be dangerous and inaccessible due to increase water level height and flow? Thanks!
Written July 21, 2018
I'm sorry for the late reply.. I think its accessible because when we came.. It was heavy rain a day before we visit this place.. I hope i answered your question.. 😬😬
