From Kinabalu National Park, we drove about 50 mins to Poring Hot Springs, At the ticket Counter, an entrance fee of Rm3 per pax is paid. Carpark is huge with plenty of parking space. Thus not difficult to find a parking spot.
We took a tour inside Exhibition Gallery. It has a detailed write up and posters displayed on Poring Hot Spring. Exhibition also gives narrative on the fauna & flora of the region.
There are lots of directory signages providing information, Park Rules and directions for visitors to find their way around the Park.
It was crowed with visitors, a fee is chargeable to use the Slide Pool and Bathtubs. It has many booths filled with hot springs. From our observation, the rectangular shape tub with roof are for soaking of feet while those round tubs are for full body soaking.
At the ticket counter , the charges for these tubs are written as “Open and Closed Bathtubs” . Once you have paid, you will be issued a tub stopper , choose your Spot , put the tub stopper onto the outlet ,turn on the tap to fill up the water to dip your body in it. Inside the tub are 2 taps that contain both hot water from natural hotspring and cold water from the waterfall , thus you be able to enjoy both nature source water.
Not only one could dip themselves inside the hot spring pool but to explore the Park area with different floras and faunas, however we did not have the time to take the Canopy Walk or have a walk to the Waterfall Area.!!! Thus Poring Hot Spring is a great place to relax, with many other activities ,it is a must visit destination !

A truly lame excuse for a “tourist attraction”. From downtown we traveled for 21/2 hours to get here. It consisted of a few concrete pools of water and a few screaming kids running around. The canopy walk is no such thing: After a pretty good walk up hill to begin this, you are a long ways down from any canopy. The walkway is high in spots, high enough to terrify little ones, but only halfway up the trees. So, you will see NO birds, insects, or animals. This park is famous for biodiversity, but they haven’t figured out a good way to share that with tourists. There is no wildlife around the perimeter of the park, which is where the spring is, thanks to the locals who have hunted out every living thing.

We have not had a hot spring experience like this anywhere in the world and were kind of letdown considering how long it takes to get here. We are used to large hot springs baths like the ones in the Canadian Rockies that fit many people and were expecting there to be a large central bath. Instead there was many outdoor two person tubs that take a very long time to fill and large the large pools seen in pictures are cold pools. There was a few large tubs that were filled, but rather crowded and could only fit around 8 people comfortably. The foot baths were nice and the grounds are well kept. Please note that we did not experience a private hot bath, but we suspect these too would take a very long time to fill.
The areas worth seeing here are the grounds nearby which offer some nice gardens and hiking trails to see waterfalls and bat caves. These areas are much less travelled and leave you alone to enjoy nature.

We chose to stay in the hotel adjacent to the hot springs for three nights to have a little break on our Borneo adventure. It was a good decision as the hot springs were a great place to relax. The 50 ringgit entrance/park conservation fee covered us for three days and, as well as the pools, we enjoyed visiting the butterfly park, the waterfall and the canopy walk (quite a challenge in the heat but felt very proud once we had completed it). We ate in the Rainforest Restaurant at least twice a day as the food was lovely and the service excellent.

It's about 90 minutes drive from Kundasang. This place has a lot of activities to offer. During our visit, we went for a hike to Canopy Walk. Make sure you wear proper attire coz you'll be sweating & hiking before reaching the Canopy Walk. Once you reach there, ohh no regrets! the view is awesome. Oh don't forget to bring your own drink too. After canopy walk, you can go to butterfly farm. Once done, take a dip at the hotspring. They have dedicated closed section or open section. Open section is fine since there is individual bath tub you can use for yourself & your family. Eating / drinking is not allowed in that area. Facilities are also sufficient enough. There are lots of picnic area at the hotspring, prayer room, toilets, etc. We went to Kipungit waterfall. at first i thought of picnic there with my family. Thank god i didn't coz the journey to there is quite tiring if i bring the foods, portable chairs, etc. haha!! but if you think you're strong enough, then just bring it. They do have 1 picnic area at that place. Overall, i love that place!

Not worth the long trip from KK. We were expecting some natural springs with cool views. The surrounding nature was nice but the springs are pretty much outdoor bath tubs and it was very crowdy. We didn't feel like we wanted to go in at all. Water was kinda funky in some pools as well. The canopy walk way was pretty cool but not worth the long drive.

Wouldn't go our of my way to visit here. The accommodation was lovely, really nice villa, but the Poring Hot springs were disappointing. Just a load of pink baths which look like they need a good scrub with bleach, and people getting in and out of them all the time - surely that can't be hygienic. The rope bridges are definitely worth doing, and the waterfall was pretty. Restaurant was not great.

Poring hot spring is a great place to visit. Kids will enjoy this place very much for its hot spring pools. It also has a jungle trail to reach a waterfall. They also provide accommodation where you can stay and enjoy the stay.

I found this place to be a bit of a strange combination. It's part eco-lodge with nice walks and a large butterfly house, part hot springs, part swimming pool, part children's venue and part restaurant. There's a jungle canopy walkway (which I didn't go on). The restaurant served a good lunch. THe butterfly house was rather old and tatty, and not too many butterflies in there, but the ones we did see were very colourful.

Hello, I’m interested about visiting the Poring Hot Springs on my way to sandakan. I’ll arrive with the bus and have all my luggage’s with me. Does anyone know if there is a place to storage them for few hours while visiting the place?

I know it's free if I have a national park admission ticket. Am I right?
Is it possible to have a ticket the day before? because it is a two day trip.

I cannot walk uphill without getting out of breath due to a medical condition. Can the canopy and the springs be accessed by car.

There is a parking area at the park but you definately have to walk through the forest to get to the canopy tree.
just walk slowly, get yourself a good pair of shoes and drink lots of water. Good luck

Hallo Axel, wir sind am 6. August auf der Durchreise für eine Nacht in der Gegend. Tatsächlich haben wir nur einen Tag. Was kannst du uns empfehlen? Haben drei Kinder (18,15,8) dabei. Danke im Voraus. Mit schönen Grüßen Andreas

Hi!
How did you get from Kinabalu national park to Poring hot springs? I'm more interested in the canopy walkway and the Rafflesia garden outside of Poring.
Thanks!

We booked a guide through Amazing Borneo Tours to take us to Kota Kinabalu Park and Poring. We also did the canopy tour and the guide found us a Rafflesia in bloom on private property (he got the driver to ask around as to where one was in bloom). It was well worth having the tour organized...our guide (Reynold Miji) was amazing!

An average will be 15 to 20 minutes for photo stops and waiting for those in front to clear the line. Do allocate 10 minutes to walk from the hot spring to the ticketing counter and another 10 minutes to trek up to the starting point which is a hut with a staircase.
