Great visit!
Nov 2019
Visited during Raya 2019. Worth the looooooooooooong journey there. It was super jam as it was a public holiday. Booked the tour via Klook. The boatman was very good at spotting proboscis monkeys even at a distance! He would drive the boat slowly towards the riverbank for us to get a closer look. Don't expect too much for the buffet dinner as it was very basic but ok. Then if was off to hunt for fireflies! Sadly, it was cut short as it started raining. Lucky we managed to spot a few trees with them. So magical!

Night out
Dec 2019 • Couples
We were picked up at 1.30 by Walter our excellent guide and proceeded on a 2hr drive to the river. We then cruised and saw various monkeys and birds followed by a lovely dinner. We then went out again after dark to see the amazing fireflies and then a 2hr drive back. Loved it all and would recommend

Proboscis monkeys and fireflies!
Sep 2019
Great half-day trip from KK. After seeing the proboscis monkeys as they come to the river late afternoon, we headed back to the base camp for a very acceptable dinner. Then into the boats again to see the fireflies, which put on a lovely display.

Just an average type visit
We were looking forward to what was promised a nice drive through the countryside to Klias wetlands. The tour costs us about $65 per person. After enduring a 2.5 hour rather cramped drive in a 12 seater Minivan, on a somewhat below average road at times over numerous potholes we arrived at out destination. We were served afternoon tea made up of coffee, banana fritters, noodles and black coffee in plastic cups. After afternoon tea we proceeded with the river cruise to observe some proboscis monkeys which lasted about 1 hour before we came back to land for dinner. Buffet dinner was made up of rice, chicken curry, fried fish, a green vegetable dish, water melon and whatever was left of the banana fritters. Black coffee (they ran out of tin milk which was not replaced) and sugary syrup were made available. After dinner we went to observe some fireflies for about half hour before starting on our 2.5 hour drive back to our hotel.
The excursion was just acceptable and not something to write home about.

OK but overpriced
Oct 2019
Cost per person was MYR$190 - about AUD$66 and was advertised as an interesting drive of 2 hours through countryside and villages followed by afternoon tea, wetlands boat ride, dinner, then a further boat ride to see fireflies. We were picked up from our hotel on time at 1.30pm in a small minivan which ended up holding 13 people in total sitting 3 across giving limited view for the middle passenger. The road was rough at times, not surprising for a developing nation but be prepared. On arrival afternoon tea was adequate, noodles,, banana fritters, tea and coffee. The boat was also small but we were fortunate enough to see many groups of proboscis monkeys very close up. From there we went back to the same restaurant for dinner which was buffet style with rice, chicken curry, egg sambal, fish and a vegetable dish. Given how excellent Malaysian cuisine can be this food tasted rather bland but I believe would be catering for the tastes of overseas guests. We then boarded the boat again and travelled just a very short distance to see the fireflies and seeing a tree sparkling with Christmas like lights was a delight. We then went back to shore and our cramped van for the trip back to Kota Kinabalu. Given that we did manage to see the monkeys up close and the fireflies we got what was promised but the crowded minivan and small and also crowded boat detracted from the experience and had the price been half of what we paid may then have been worth it.

Monkeys (and fireflies) viewing...
Jul 2019 • Friends
This boat tour and dinner was part of our 5-day Mt. and Kota Kinabalu package. After a ~2.5hr bus ride from KK, we took a boat tour and the owner would spot the rare Proboscis (long-nosed) monkeys that were perching/eating on the tree branches. We saw several groups of them, and each with 5-10 monkeys... The guide said we were quite lucky to see so many. The boat cannot get close to the monkeys, and the telescopes helped to view them clearer. After a simple dinner, we sailed out again to see the fireflies. They were very different (smaller and blinking more frequently) from the ones I saw before, and there were so many of them -- amazing !

Nice trip but nature rules.
Jul 2019 • Family
This was a pickup at The Hotel and a 2-3 hour bus transfer to the river. One river Cruise with sunset and then din er buffé. Another night ride before going back. Chance to see some monkeys and birds etc.

The pick up went Great. Small group about 20 People from 4-5 diffrent hotels.
But then The bus broke down halfway from the river extract point. After 30-45 min the guide manage to fix 2 private persons with cars to take us the remaining ride. Very Nice work from our guide Assia. 👍. Also a rescuebus were 10 min away.

Late to the boat we got alittle shorter first river time.
But we saw 2 diffrent kind of monkeys, some birds, a crocodile 👍 (better be Quick if you want to take a photo), lots of bats. Then the Rain came down,Wow. 😄 Nature rules.

We got back to dinner break with lots of food. Buffé, some Good, some not so Good. Its up to you.

After The dinner we went out on the second trip on the river. A shorter trip just to see the fireflys. One firefly got freindly with us in the boat and flew in under the shirt. 😘.

Pros: Nice guide, freindly People, we saw all the main animals as we hoped.

Cons: 4-5 hours bus trip, but hey Its Borneo not a amusment park.
The river is damaged by mankind, but isnt all nature? 😢

Headsup:Bring raincoat and put it on before the rain. 😅
Some drinks and snacks for the bus trip.

Afterall it was a Nice trip even though some People got angry because the bus incident. But sometimes things happens and the guide/company did their best to fix it. 👍

Hello Rippel73, First and foremost we would like to stand our sincere apologies especially for the bus incident that had occurred. All of the tragedy that had happened was beyond our expectation. Even though our bus has been double checked before moving. We would like thank you as well for this feedback and the beautiful comment. This will be our reference and to improve more of this type of problem in the future. We still hope that you had a wonderful trip at Sabah. Thank you.

Complete Waste of Time and Overpriced
Dec 2018 • Couples
Me and my Girlfriend did a Klias Wetlands Safari Tour starting from Kota Kinabalu. After the PickUp by the Tour Company, it took us about 2.5 hours to drive to the River. For tall guys like me (about 1.95m) the drive was exhausting since the Minivan is really small, luckily the van was not completely full, therefore I could take two seats (still really uncomfortable and painful to sit there for 2.5h). Upon your arrival, you will get some snacks and afterward, you will take a seat in the boat. The Boat cruise itself was a big disappointment. We only cruised for maybe 90 min till we went back. During the cruise, the efforts of the crew are focused on finding the advertised Proboscic Monkeys. AND THATS IT. After you find one of these guys the boat will stop and you have the chance to look at them for 30 min. You are not even really close to the monkeys, and they aren't really doing stuff. You just sit in the boat and glance at some brown spots in the trees. They will not show you anything else. You will not really drive up and down the river(maybe 700m in total). You will not see any part of the probably amazing river delta. You will not see any other part of the amazing fauna which lives in the river. Since there are fishing villages/huts/ships at the riverside you are not even feeling like you are in some national park oder wildlife reserve.
After this short boat ride you will get a basic malaysian dinner. Afterwards you will board the boat again for 15 min and drive in the dark to some fireflies. This part of the tour was amazing and the only reason why i give this tour two stars. Thus you drive back to KK for another 2.5h. To summarize: you will sit in a cramped car for a total of at least 5 hours, spend maybe 2 hours on the boat and get a basic meal for ridiciolous 200 RM per person. Unless you have never seen a monkey or a tree in your life-dont go there.
To the people offering this tour: Why didnt you show us this amazing place? Why dont you make it at least a 3 to 4 hours boat tour? And why was your advertised "traditional malaysian dinner" so lame? You could at least pour some effort into getting some decent food...

It is quite a long run from KK, more than 90 minutes one way. People are nice. The boat tour is very nice, animals no much, so it becomes boaring after a while, but sunset very nice. Decent food.

Private river cruise
Sep 2018 • Couples
We did the Klias river cruise through Amazing Borneo as a private tour.

The local boat man was fantastic at spotting wildlife and attracting the fireflies!

We were lucky enough to spot the coucal bird, oriental hornbill, crocodiles, proboscis, long tailed macaque, silver leaf langur, kingfisher, water monitor and lots of fireflies!
