Lots of cool cameras, whole range of history here. Worth a short hour or long 45 minutes walking through.

Tiny Museum Packed with History
Mar 2020 • Couples
What a great little museum! It is tiny, but packed with cameras and gadgets from the past. Our guide was super passionate about cameras and answered all of our questions wonderfully. I have never considered myself a camera enthusiast, honestly we were looking to get out of the blazing sun, but this place sparked my interest.

Great Museum if you like photography
Mar 2020 • Solo
I spent a wonderous hour in this museum. Many of the cameras brought back happy memories. The guide, May, was very informative and friendly. Not on everyones list of must see places, but if you can find the time, I would definately recommend dropping in - especially if you are of the pre-digital age.

Great exhibits with an enthusiastic guide
Jan 2020
This is an unusual museum all about photography from beginning to modern times. The entrance fee includes a guide who will take you through the processes involved in professional photography. The guide will also show the old school way of touching up photos back in the days before photoshop and editing too that can be done easily on even your phones. An honourable mention also goes to the mock-up of a dark room where I got another great explanation of how this worked.

I do not consider myself a photography enthusiast, but I found myself captivated by the passionate narrative and sheer enthusiasm of the guide. A fantastic visit and well worth the small entrance fee. I wish all museums had guides this interested in their exhibitions.

An excellent quirky little museum
Jan 2020
This is a really interesting little curio of a museum on Armenia st. It contains an amazing collection of cameras, lenses and everything photography related. Some of the exhibits really take you back to some of the old camera's my grandparents had, lots of speciality cameras, old flash guns, the old flash cubes etc etc. There are some interesting spy camera too. The lady who took us round was very enthusiastic and informative.

Fantastic collection and tour
Jan 2020 • Couples
Amazing collection of cameras and photography paraphernalia spanning the last century! Highlights include the spy camera gear used by the Russians and original preservation of local photography history. Mac one of the founders of the museum has interesting historical anecdotes for each of the pieces in the museum so make sure you ask the guides for additional information. We spent an hour here wandering around the displays.

A good view in the history of photography and filming.
Dec 2019
More than 1000 camera's are exposed in this museum. Interesting to see some of the more than 100 years old camera's and the way they work. Also there is a extensive explanation how the photo films were develloped and printed in the old days. The staff is very helpfully with information. The price: Ringit 20 for an adult.

Not only a wonderful collection of cameras, but insight into photography in Penang
Nov 2019
I've seen some amazing camera / photography museums in Tokyo, so I was not sure what to expect, but was very pleasantly pleased with the ASIA CAMERA MUSEUM in George Town, Penang. It had a fine collection of cameras, but was more interesting to see the remains of the various photography studios in Penang. One can take photos in the remains of a studio and also see samples of the different styles of each of the 18? studios once operating on the island-state. The museum's curator or manager was a real expert on cameras and photography and must be a wonderful educator for visiting school groups who can learn about the development of the art and engineering of photography over the years. The museum is also a very Instagramable place for selfies with film cameras, movie cameras, darkroom, and camera repair technician's table. Armenia Street also is in a lovely neighborhood which will greatly please street photographers and others. Lastly, I should add that be sure you are headed to the "Asia Camera Museum," as there amazingly is another camera museum -- currently on Penang Hill, that does not seem the same kind of organic collection that developed from a camera club, but appears to be more of a tourist trap. The Asia Camera Museum though is a real treat.

Waste of time

Better to ge elsewhere. There is nothing interesting to see. A camera selling shop would be more interesting to look for photography gadgets & accessories.
