Come Home to Historic Splendour

'ONE OF 10 GREATEST MANSIONS IN THE WORLD' LONELY PLANET 2011

A Grand Mansion conceived and constructed by a Grand Man; an eminent edifice which History calls Home; a peerless representation of the Paradigm Chinese Courtyard House – the Cheong Fatt Tze “Blue” Mansion has been perfectly poised for over a century on firm foundations of architectural, cultural and historic superlatives.

Essentially an ‘heirloom with rooms’, today, the Mansion readily bequeaths its charms to visitors who are able to indulge in Exclusive Heritage Homestays; **Guided Tours; and Tailored Functions on its premises. Reputedly the favourite home of the “Last Mandarin and First Capitalist of China”, the Mansion is undoubtedly the favourite home of George Town.

Overall this was a very interesting restoration project of the old Cheong Fatt Tze mansion. Pls remember to check for the tour time guys, they're gonna close the gate when the tour begins. Ticket for the entrance (including a guide) was a bit expensive to me. The guide spoke great English, and was clear & sure at his stories though.... More

Gives a good idea of what the town was like if you had money. We had never heard of CFT but his house says a lot about the kind of man he was. Would highly recommend. Not sure I would stay here, although the hotel part looks nice, because it is so close to the noisy Red Garden food court... More

The tour doesn't show you much despite the claim of a few courtyards and tens of rooms . The story as told by the guide is much more fascinating.

So we just turned up at the right time for a tour. The mansion is very pretty. We left the tour early as it just went on too long for us. A bit too much talking but it is nice to see.

Make sure you get there in time for tour as the person will explain the history of the mansion. No access to room when it's fully book so I find disappointed. The area open for paid entry isn't very big. From the main area when you enter into the mansion, to middle court yard, then up the stairs with 2... More

The mansion is truly an architectural masterpiece that claims its title as one of the best mansions in the world. It's worth going just for that; however, I was a bit disappointed that you don't get to visit more of the mansion.

Apart from amazing guide tour, and splendid architecture of the mansion you can't see much in there. You can't even see inside of the room. So, it is a bit expensive for the 45 minute guided tour which only available 3 times daily.

It is a prestige hotel, so only 3 timing guided tour to be observed, To arrive 15 mins prior to actual tour 11am, 2pm and 3:30pm to buy ticket. Other timing, not allow to enter. Do visit at least once to see the preserved hotel and nice pic taking of the Blue Mansion. Take a taxi here as not easy... More

This mansion was allowed to go to rack and ruin after it was left to the youngest son of a very rich founder. The mansion has been carefully and lovingly restored by its new architect owner. Apart from one central courtyard and rooms off, most of the mansion is out of bounds to the public as it is now a... More

I read about this blue mansion in "The Gift of Rain" by Tan Twan Eng (and excellent novel, highly recommended), but it never occurred to me that the place really existed. It is a beautiful mansion, and the tour is very interesting to understand the history of Penang. The are three tours per day: 11am, 2pm and 3:30pm. It would... More
