I stumbled across this by chance whilst exploring the area. It isn't a must but your likely to pass it so worth a stop. This is a temple built by the Chinese Yap clan. This is evident in the Chinese architecture. The temple is active so be respectful of worshippers if you go inside.

For almost the entire 19th century, the island and the city witnessed, and some even took part in, the rivalry between Chinese triad clans. Once there was even something similar to war. Each clan had its own temple. This tiny but beautiful temple is dedicated to the Chinese god of prosperity. It used to be the base of the secret society Tua Pek Kong, which was controlled by the Strait Chinese. Nowadays they only talk about triads. But the descendants of these Chinese have not gone away. Have you become law-abiding citizens? The temple is beautifully decorated. The stone carving on the facade is simply incomparable!

Unlike some grander ones the entrance to both Chinese temples facing each other on Armenian street is free. Their history is well documented with pictures on the walls. Yap temple is attached to an Art Deco building from the 1920's.

This temple is located on the corner of Lebuh Cannon and Lebuh Armenian and is the most obvious of the Clan houses but there is little information (or even a name) to be seen. I wasn’t sure if visitors were welcome so just admired the exterior.

This temple has a striking exterior with ornate roof with many figures, dragons etc but the interior does not have any particular stand out features. Served the Yap clan from South China from 1926.

This Chinese temple, right in the heart of the George Town heritage area is a must on the temple tour list. George Town offers a lot of different temples to visit and the Yap temple shouldn't be left out. See the pictures I added to this review.

What drew my attention is the beautiful colourful exterior that caught my eye. I did not go inside, but I enjoyed looking at the beauty of the temple.

The Yap Temple, officially called Choo Chay Keong 慈濟宮 (Cí Jì Gōng), is the clan temple of the Lum Yeong Tong Yap Kongsi, located next to it. The clan temple is located at the corner of Armenian Street and Cannon Street, in the core zone of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It was erected for the worship of the Yap clan's patron deity, Hoay Che Chung Wang, as well as for the display of the Yap ancestral tablets, hence it was sometimes known as the Yap Ancestral Temple (葉氏祠堂).

If you visit Khoo Kongsi, this temple is worth visiting. The temple is small and dedicated to the Chinese God of prosperity and showcases beautiful ornamentation, particularly the roof of green tiles and the intricate carvings of dragons. The walls and pillars are decorated with stone carvings, all masterpieces of craftsmanship. The building dates to 1924 and is dedicated to the patron deity of the Yaps, Hoay Che Chung Wang. Located at the junction of Armenian and Cannon Streets.

Interesting little temple but we really didn’t find it very captivating. Ornate exterior draws your attention as does the shrine.
