Nice Photo Shot
Oct 2020
Located within the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site and overlooking the Padang, this building is yet another must visit.

The frontage is still quite a majestic sight an a nice stop over for photos.

Edwardian architecture
Nov 2019
Beautiful George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a multicultural city with famous quarters like 'Little India' or Chinatown around Campbell Street. And naturally there is everywhere a strong Malay element. What one will not find is a British corner, but walking through George Town's northern part, where its development began end of the 18th century, one will find several impressive buildings from the British colonial past.

On my walk through this part I got to see the Jubilee Clock Tower, the Fort Cornwallis, the City Hall and Town Hall across the Esplanade, then the old Penang State Museum, the Supreme Court, the Anglican St.George's Church, the Catholic Church of the Assumption and the famous Eastern&Oriental Hotel.

The City Hall from 1903 replaced the 23 older Town Hall almost next door, which had become too small as an administrative center. It was built in the Neo-Baroque style, popular in the first decade of the 20th century, which is a bit less ornate than the previous Victorian style. Since at this time Edward VII was king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain it is also known as 'Edwardian style'.

The construction, last renovated in 2005, can be admired from outside, since entry is not allowed. Today it serves as the seat of the Penang Island City Council.

A large white colonial building
Dec 2019
Standing right in front of Millenium Plaza and near the War memorial and waterfront, this very well maintained building is a beautiful example of colonial buildings. This building was completed in 1903, the two-storey building combines Edwardian Baroque and Palladian architectural styles. When in the neighbourhood it is worthwhile to visit.

Another good British colonial building on the heritage zone next to the padang and the esplinade.
You can enter and see the small exhibition of the history of Penang up to the present.

Nice colonial buildings housing the City Hall.

Heard that during special days, events will be held in front of the field of City Hall.

Another wonderful colonia building that emphasizes Georgetown's heritage as you walk along the Esplanade.

It was built in 1903 and located next to the Town Hall. It is now the local government headquarters.
