About
Yasmin Ahmad's commercials and movies struck a chord with many a local (and more than a few from abroad) for their honest portrayal of the beauty of everyday Malaysian life. She showed us ordinary, flawed human beings who are capable of being extraordinary - of achieving great things and great happiness, because love and kinship triumph above all else. It is our ultimate goal to propagate this spirit of universal harmony through Yasmin's philosophies that she channelled through her many works. If life imitates art as well as the other way round, we can think of no better purpose to establish an outlet for such artistic expressions to flourish freely. THE YASMIN AHMAD MUSEUM: Yasmin At Kong Heng A resource centre as well as unconventional 'museum' curated with the objective of educating and inspiring others to write film or commercial scripts of their own. It is a small but flexible space where the late Yasmin Ahmad's spirit, love, wisdom and sense of humour can continue inspiring the next generation. The location of Kong Heng in Ipoh was chosen for its proximity to many of the locales where Yasmin shot her famous films. It will not be a conventional museum for a 'dead person's things' or stagnant archives with permanent plaques. Instead, Yasmin At Kong Heng is an evolving space with content that is refreshed every 6 months to 1 year. Yasmin's life's work - whether in film, poetry, photography, TV and even print advertising - will be shared in a "newseum" that inspires and springboards new talent and ideas. And, in the near future, we want to make it a place for local creative talent to shine - from students and aspiring filmmakers to new artists who need an exhibition space.

I got lost trying to locate this spot. This gallery is located at the basement of the Xcess bookstore. The way to the basement is interestingly designed. Not much stuff about Yasmin but enough to get the feeling of her inner self attributes

This is a hidden gem in Ipoh.

This is an intimate place for visitors to know Yasmin Ahmad, a Malaysian icon, who had influenced her country and the world through her work and philosophy. A video that lasts for an hour was showing continuously of her commercial creations. They offered deeper meaning and provided food for thought. On the walls were displayed many of her phrases and thought, which were inspirational for a better human being.

This is a private and small gallery that is on the third floor (walk up the stairs) next to the Container Hotel. Gallery entrance is from the alley. Admission is RM3 paid at a temporary counter outside the door.

We first expected to browse through the exhibits but ended up spending more than one hour there absorbing the her messages - provided a different kind of satisfaction to our mind in this food paradise town.

The museum is a small space around Concubine Lane. You will need to purchase a ticket that comes with copy of Yasmin's signature. The atmosphere is really nice. The TV in the common area plays all the advertisements she had done. Honestly, watching all those commercials will make you choked up a little. There's a room filled with her collections of poems, stuffs she used.

Those who adore Yasmin's work of art should visit this place. You can just sit there and watching the collection of her commercials she'd directed and produced and still touched by the values in all the commercials even though you had watch on repeat. Delightful for soul :-)

This tiny museum has a few artefacts of Yasmin Ahmad. You can listen to her poetry on her own eMac computer and then watch one hour of video clips of her work. You also see excerpts of her diary and read many of her quotes. It is a good insight to this talented Film Producer and Director.

Whether you are familiar with Yasmin’s work, getting to know her is a blessing. Her ability to make you laugh, cry and be moved is nothing short of inspiring.

It costs rm$5 to visit this treasure. And if you fall in love with her quirkiness, buy the book ‘Yasmin how you know’. You will then have bought into the privilege to see what a wonderful character she was.

Her artistry moved me more than 10 years ago still moves me. And now this intimate setting will give a wider audience an opportunity to see what a wonder she is and what a treasure we have lost.

My only gripe was this place is that the exhibits be better hung. Think it’s a little disrespectful from its original intention.
