Short stretch of beach. However a number of local food stalls available. Sells variety of fried prawn, fish, squid and fishballs. Overall, good visit with family with good foods. Lucky for us, during our visit, not many people visit yet, but if its 5pm, am sure it will be hectic and traffic jam.

Great place to witness sunset. Many restaurants along the beach, whole stretch selling seafood and local delicacies. Nice place for photography, the ocean is absolutely beautiful. But unfortunately, the area is full of rubbish.

There are a few bespoke fabric shops mixed in with the local handicrafts and arts outlets. This is where some of the traditional double-weave fabrics are made that the Royal houses of the Malaysian sultanates and the kings themselves wear as part of their official robes. Well worth a visit, but the truly good works can be on the pricey side.

Pantai Cahaya Bulan is one of the famous beaches in Kelantan, Malaysia. It is located about 10 km from Kota Bharu and a landing area for the Japanese military attacked the British on December 8, 1941. At one point, this beach called Sensual Love Beach, a name allegedly given by a British soldier when he was on this beach on during World War II. At that time, the soldiers are suffering because of unrequited love. Some local people still use the old name is on this day, although they prefer to refer to this beach as PCBs.

The coast is about 1.2 kilometers. The beach area is renowned for its long and wide, with beautiful sand and clear water. Rows ru trees and coconut trees also add to the beauty of this beach. Therefore Pantai Cahaya Bulan has become a popular picnic spot among local families, especially at weekends. The beach is equipped with facilities for the visitors, there are hotels, chalets, camping sites, restaurants and stores, and public toilets.

The trip to this beach from Kota Bharu will take visitors through a traditional Malay town. This is an important area of handicrafts in the country for printing batik, songket weaving, and making kites and brass.

Once the world renown Beach Of Passionate Love, the beach is no longer what it once was. Gone were the beautiful and scenic beach, and in its place you will see a 'brick wall, or embankment' to protect further erosion of the beach. Of course you still haves stalls selling seafood, ice kacang and soverniers.
No longer ' a not to be missed' place....

Busy local beach area with paved walk way. This is not a beach like in Australia. It's a rocky man made break wall - not suitable for swimming. Packed with locals and families enjoying the sunset and breeze. Busy at sunset and early evening. Parking is difficult at times. Hawker stores selling cheap food and drinks (no alcohol). Food a bit more expensive. Coconut 5rm. Stall selling kites does a go trade. Icecream sellers walking along also. Free bubble making for children. 15 mins drive from KB.

From the bus stop opposite Kota Bharu Tourist Information Center and in front of Tengku Aziz market, I boarded the red air-conditioned Cityliner bus to PCB (Pantai Cahaya Bulan). It was about half an hour journey. The bus fare was only RM 1.70. It was drizzling when I boarded the bus but I thought the rain would stop when I reached the beach. Anyway, it was not much of a worry as I thought I was adequately equipped with an umbrella inside my bag.

However, I had underestimated the weather conditions. The bus alighted right in front of the beach but it continued to rain cats and dogs and the wind was so strong. I stood under a small pavilion shelter facing the sea but my body was drenched amidst the strong gusts of wind and the torrential rain. My little fragile umbrella was twisted and could not be opened.

I had never witnessed a sea with so strong a wave until I came to PCB. The current must be very strong as the waves was towering huge and threatening. Hearing the thunderous impact created by the strong waves and seeing the waves itself, I felt so intimidated as if the `tsunami' was going to swallow me up. I was timidly freeze at that moment not daring to step out a little inch into the beach. I presumed it was high tide but there was a long barricade of granite rocks that prevent the waves from spilling into the land. Without those boulder rocks, it was really risky to stand at the beach pavilion and look at the sea.

I was wearing a thin T-shirt on that day of my visit to the beach and my palms were freezing cold due to the strong wind and rain. I dashed towards a `cafetaria' with an attap roof to escape the cold wind and rain but the rain was seeping through the roof and I still found myself wet and freezing. I then dashed towards a chalet resort area opposite the cafeteria and managed to find some comfort and warm under a pavilion inside the chalet compound; temporarily away from the strong wind and waves. No one noticed my unintended `illegal trespass'. I also did not come across anyone guarding at the entrance of the resort so I sought solace in the chalet compound for a while till the rain stopped.

After the rain had stopped, I returned to the beach area and look at the beach again. The waves was still strong and it was not suitable for anyone to swim. But at this moment I had a better view and appreciation of the beach. A sense of serenity and calmness enveloped me as I looked across the vast ocean of waves and my mind absorbed in the rhythmic thunderous sound produced by the splashing of the waves against the boulder rocks. The sea water was not turquoise crystal blue or green but muddy yellow like that of the River Kejang in Sarawak that I had seen. The sea water was not beautiful but the extraordinarily strong waves was unique and I was really taken aback by its magnitude. When I returned to the city center of Kota Bharu, I felt refreshed. It was a memorable visit.

I am not sure if the sea would be calmer and more peaceful on other days or months.

- The beach is a popular spot for family outings, picnics, kite flying, water sports
and enjoying sunsets but not suitable for swimming due to its strong current
- The beach was quite clean
- There was sufficient n free parking and also equipped facilities such as public toilets
- It may be crowded during weekend n public holidays
- AVOID any local food stalls that selling batter-fried or grilled seafoods (fish/prawns/squid) as most of the time is not fresh. Keropok lekor and other fishball is ok. Price are also a bit higher than average

PCB used to be the best beach to swim in decades ago. But due to erosion, the beach is now taken over by blocks of erosion barriers. In few years time, more erosion will occur and could reach the restaurants nearby.

Breezy beachside. Good to hangout and have some fried food or local call it as colek. Also famous for coconut blend. Just a normal hangout place and to play kites.
