Unlike other black-sand beaches, this sand isn't volcanic in nature but rather is streaked black by run-off from a nearby hot spring.

We visited the beach as part of a taxi tour of the island. Interesting to hear about the volcanic history.

The beach itself is quite cool and very quiet. Unfortunately, when you look across the water all you notice is a big factory. I've no idea what is made there, but for me, it made me reluctant to swim there. The water didn't look as...More

We're glad we went to Black Sand Beach because it was the only one that wasn't crowded with tourists. In fact, we went on a weekday morning and were the only ones there. Very little of the beach is actually black sand.

Drove on scooters all the way from the other side of the island expecting to find a black beach, reality is a regular sandy beach and spots of black here and there and s muddy shore line probably from the cement factory near by!

A quet beach with a great view of the cement factory ; the only black sand to be seen is in the water channels running down into the beach. Keep driving.

The actual name of this beach is Pantai Pasir Hitam. There is a car park for cars and tourist buses. It is a beach used as mooring and docking place for fishing boats which means there are probably imersed anchors waiting to be stepped on....More

This is a must visit place. It is a unique location as awesome to view. The folklore of the black sand is amazing but you will have to read that for yourself.

Nothing remarkable about this beach other than it was a nice warm day and it was a beach with sand and was black ... few people there made it enjoyable but not on my great must recommend to do list for others

Came here as a passer by - nothing great about this area and you certainly can't bathe here. Beach is small and boring but at least I can say that I've seen it - a 5 minute quick stop and that's it. The sand wasn't...More

So so. Can skip unless you are black sand research specialist. Reach 4.30pm and don't see anyone playing/swimming in the sea
