Farley is a great tour guide, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the area and clearly loves doing what he does. He was also very good at communicating with us before the tour via text, giving us good directions and prompt at answering any questions we had.
The tour itself was interesting and the surroundings are beautiful. Kayaking through mangroves is a unique experience. Depending on your level of fitness and experience with kayaking, it can be a peaceful experience, a stressful experience, or a combination of both. For my 13 year old daughter and I, both with very little kayaking experience, kayaking together in the same boat was very difficult. We found it impossible to keep from running into trees through the narrow passages and keeping the kayak moving in the direction we wanted it. I am 43 years old, in fairly good shape, but I had a hard time getting into a comfortable position and my back hurt throughout the tour. By the end, we were ready for it to be over. We would have done better with the 2-hour tour, as opposed to 4 hours. However, my wife and son (16) took individual kayaks and had a much better experience. They described it as peaceful and fun. Still a lot of exertion required, but nice.
You have the option of buying lunch at a fish farm on this tour. If you decide to do this, be prepared to pay more than you’ve ever paid for lunch in Malaysia. It is amazing to be able to pick our your own live fish, lobster, crab, etc. to be prepared however you want it. And it was tasty...but, I was completely shocked by the price. And, unfortunately, by the time I asked about the price, it was too late to change our mind. Farly mentioned that they would weigh and tell us a price before we were charged, but that didn’t happen. I had to ask, and apparently, I asked too late. I feel communication could be better about what you are getting into with lunch.
Overall, had there been better communication about lunch and about the strenuous nature of kayaking for hours on end, it would have been a great tour. Because of the good job from Farley on conducting the tour and the uniqueness of the surroundings, I still give this 4 stars.
