The compound contains state building as well as a mosque. The buildings are not open for the public but the gardens can be a good spot for pictures. The mosque itself is quite nice on the outside but not as good on the inside.

So it seems that photos are fine, but unfortunately visits inside the grounds are not allowed. It's still one of the most interesting buildings in JB though so worth a stop as you wander around.

The intrinsic Saracenic architectural design of this stable and solid former State Secretariat Building was unique and magnificient. The building was constructed in 1940 by the British to streamline their colonial administration in this area and was officially opened by Sultan Ibrahim, the Johor ruler then. It was thus also named as the Sultan Ibrahim building. The facade of the... More

It's worth seeking out this complex as you wander around the centre of JB. It's quite an easy one to find and you can even see it in the distance as you arrive at the Malaysian immigration checkpoint building.

Venue for the Johor Arts Festival and other civic activities. Fantastic backdrop for wedding photos and the like. When it was in use as State govt centre there was a huge sheltered car park at the bottom of the building with all the official State cars parked side by side in two long lines. Quite a sight!

It is located at Bukit Timbalan, in front of Kotaraya shopping Complex. It is also known as Sultan Ibrahim Building, completed in 1940. The offices of the State Secretariat have moved to Kota Iskandar, Nusa Jaya. Nowadays, quite a number of wedding photographs were being shoot there.
