We took a Grab($2) from the Holiday Inn to this relatively narrow museum. After paying 6 MR for 2 seniors, we climbed the stairs to the 3 upper floors, each with explanations in English beginning with the gambir tannin, pepper and pineapple plantation history with samples of products. Then extensive history of the 5 dialect clans that prospered to develop this Johor Peninsula area, British oversee, Japanese WW11 and modern politics.
Nice restrooms and an exit to a back street with shops, bakeries and restaurants.

The Chinese Heritage Museum is a fantastic museum detailing the history of Chinese settlement in Johor Bahru. The first two floors are dedicated to and have an amazing amount of detail about the different Chinese communities that settled and on their contribution. The top floor is a special exhibit on gambier, the crop that originally made Johor wealthy and first brought the Chinese over. A great museum for a very small entrance fee.

I would recommend to all those history lovers out there. I learn a lot about the heritage of Johor after visiting this museum. One of Johor Bahru founding father was Wong Ah Fook and I was curious to learn more about him. This museum had allowed me to get to know his history and the impact he had made in shaping Johor Bahru

We walked to this Shophouse that was converted to a small Museum of the Chinese Heritage. It was located @ Jalan Ibrahim , a short walk from our hotel , the Citrus.Go SouthWest and ull find this museum between other shophouses. It was well maintained , clean ,pleasant atmosphere.Interesting place to learn about how the early Chinese settlers, their contributions for Johor Bahru , the history of British colonial and the Japanese war period. We can see artifacts of the early Chinese settlers, music instruments, photographs, documents ,etc. This 3 storey museum was worth to visit ,we had a good time in this museum.Enterance price is just RM 12 for 3 of us.On top of this museum you can have Chinese writing stamps,on the brochures provided near the enterance.

I only initially visited Chinatown to buy an item from the TinTin shop and I walked past the Chinese Heritage Museum which was an absolute gem of a find. Using an audio tour I was able to complete the tour at my own pace. I found the audio guide engaging and the stories compelling. I will recommend that people go out of their way to visit this museum because it’s a must see for anyone who appreciates history

I visited this on a Sunday afternoon. Paid just 6 ringgit for entrance fee (adult rate). Spent a good 1.5 hours at this place, touring the 4 story building, slowing taking in the video and wall exhibitions.

It was an informative exhibition that tells the story of the Chinese who settled in Johore from the mid-19th century, developed the gambier and pepper industry that came to define the economic transformation of the areas surrounding Johor, and also forged a strong and enduring collaboration with the Malay populace and rulers. The exhibitions were also inspiring in that it tells of the sacrifices and hard work of the early Chinese to build a better life not just for their community, but for the population at large.

Good to spend 1-1.5 hours here to go through slowly the exhibitions and watch the videos of the history of the area.

A must visit for visitors including Johoreans for understanding of Chinese heritage, especially the political, economic and social interwining relationships between the Chinese and the Johorean royalty as well as the British colonists who manipulated the peoples for their own selfish benefits.

Clean vicinity with well documented historical accounts of the Chinese's contribution, stretched over three floors. Felt the scope covered was brief. However, given a lack of time (about 1 hour) as we visited wee too late, the visit was worth the while. The entry tickets were very reasonable - my two Aussie friends and I cost only RM9/=. Getting there took us longer than expected as the building was hidden near a narrow street, in the heart of town with pretty heavy traffic (at that time).
