- Janine PRed Deer, Canada3,317 contributionsSee the Wildlife! We had a guide (Matthew) tour use through the forest for about 2 hours. His English was great and he was able to answer our questions. We saw 3 of 7 types of Lemurs (5 are nocturnal). It was an amazing experience! Bring solid footwear, mosquito repellant and long pants for most comfort. Washrooms available near parking lot and you can purchase drinks as well. Cash only.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 12, 2024
- duhozBeroun, Czech Republic7,586 contributionsFantastic dayMy first park to see in Madagascar and even at the beginning of May, during the warm and dry season the visit was great despite not seeing the famous largest Madagascar predator fossa neither in the forest or around the camp side. Which I partly expected. But I have chose May as during rainy season the road conditions are even worse. The park is situated about 60 KM or rather 2 hours bumpy ride from Morondava via the Avenue of the Baobas. I have not seen fossa but I was lucky that the first lemur we found was strangely the nocturnal one. Then we spotted White Sifaka and for more than one hour we observed playful red-fronted brown lemurs in the serenity as my tour started quite late at 10:00 we arrived at 9:00 but we had to wait for the availability of the guide. But it paid off to wait as our guide was fantastic and knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to see lemurs but also many birds. The tour took about two hours. There is on-site restaurant with meals about 30.000 Ar and you can stay overnight and also take night tour. Entrance fee 50.000 Ar guide 2 hours 50.000 Ar.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 25, 2024
- Bl GzAntananarivo Province, Madagascar63 contributionsPretty dry forest with many fauna (including fosa)Dry forest with plenty of flora and fauna, day and night, and well-planned trails that allow you never to come back to the same place (if you have a good Guide, like ours for example: Hery). To see at different seasons, and the southern winter will allow you, if you stay in the evening, to see the fosa in the camp. In short, a stop to do on the tsingy road or that deserves even the few hours of track from Morondava to go discover it.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 5, 2024
- Thecatsmum4Kettering, United Kingdom2,727 contributionsNIght Walk and Morning Walk - lots to seeWe stayed nearby and our first trip was the night walk. Our driver & guide ensured we arrived around 5.30pm as this gave us the best chance to see the Fossa and this paid off. However, this was on the campsite around the kitchen area rather than on the actual trek later. Immediately it was spotted everyone ran towards it with cameras in hand. This didn't bother the animal, it seemed to us that they feed it from the kitchen and it is used to people!! We were then taken to an area of forest for the night walk, where we saw several types of lemur, lizards and birds. We got some good photographs as you are quite close, but the area was very busy with several groups at the same time. We thinks these animals may be encouraged to stay in a specific area for viewing. It wasn't a very large area and close to the campsite. Overall yes it was worth doing. Morning Walk Again quite a few groups in the same area, and some of them were attempting to feed lemurs which we felt was not good. The local guide who was with them should have discouraged this. Accomodation at the camp - we didn't stay here but from what we saw the huts were a very basic backpacker type with little outside space.Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 30, 2024

This place is known as the best place o see the fosa during the dry season. Of course, you can see also different species of lemurs, and birds.
We recommend to visit it in two times : nightwalk and day time visit
It is possible to see the jumping rats in some season about midnight. This visit can be arranged with your guide after the nightwalk and most of the time it is not included into the package that tour operators propose.
For the room, you can opt for bungalows. Camping is not safe as there were some probleme with the fosa in the past.
Dormitory is not a good option at all. We recommend to opt for bungalows.
The Relais de Kirindy wich is on the main road offers better quality of bungalows in higher price of course.

I came here to see the "Dancing Lemurs" and I was pleasantly surprised by seeing many. And so close too. Had a chameleon eat his lunch in front on me and saw any amounts of wildlife non my trek guided by a very capable guide who was very knowledgeable. His English was better than my Malagasy!
Well worth the visit and we managed to get through with a 4wd during this year's rainy season.

I done this as a half day excursion from Morondava, leaving at 0430 - this allowed me to be at the Avenue of the Boababs on sunrise, and get deep into the forest before the temperature got too hot.
Was in the forest (as in out of the car bush walking) for about 2 hours and saw a huge amount of wildlife running free; several species of lemurs, snakes, spiders, iguanas, lizards, etc...
Wish I had a camera better than my old iPhone.! I missed so many good photos...
Tips for you;
1) use a guide from Camp Amourex to escort you round (or you might not come back out). The guide I had, also knew where to look for the little Mouse Lemurs.
2) avoid the midday heat.
3) start early, so as to catch the sunrise at the Avenue of the Boababs.

We went here to see the fossa. Forget it, you are highly likely not to see one. You best bet is to stay at the lodge in the park, although it looked grim and is expensive. Most people stay at the Relais out of the park. We only did the evening walk around the forest. Saw some mouse lemurs up really close which was the only highlight. The rest of the time you are walking around a cris cross pattern of paths. You can see all the other tourists torches and at time the road. Other guest didn't even see lemurs so I guess we had some luck. I really don't recommend spending your time or money here. If you want to be close to Boab forest stay in Morondava.

The forest itself was ok if you don’t mind walking back and forth along a grid, otherwise it was obviously not an old forest and better experiences can be had elsewhere. The real problem was that there was rat poo all over the beds of the dormitories, and definitely a rat problem in the camp. We were kept up at night by the sounds of rats scurrying and squeaking underneath our beds, and the explanation we received was that we were “in the forest so of course there are rats”. After 5 weeks of Madagascar that is certainly not the case. Do yourself a favour and either go as a day trip or stay outside of the park. Overall not worth the 6 hour round trip 4x4 ride.

Kirindy Forest is a nice place to find wildlife. In the ecolodge you can find a fossa, which visits the trash bin unfortunately. On a day hike you can find birds like couas, Verreaux's sifaka, red-fronted brown lemurs and reptiles. On a recommended night hike, which really goes into the forest, you can find grey mouse lemurs, red-tailed sportive lemurs and a pale fork-marked lemur (this is wat we saw). This is a great park for a 1 night and day visit.

Unlike many other parks in Madagascar, Kirindy is relatively flat, making it easy to hike and spot wildlife. In a two-hour hike I spotted several species of Lemur, many of which came down to within a few feet of me. The major highlight was spotting Madagascar’s elusive Fossa.

As wildlife biologists, this was our favorite park in Madagascar. We stayed in the park at the Kirindy Camp (reviewed separately) and saw all our target species here in 2 nights/1 full day. The rare and elusive Fossa often come to the Kirindy Camp, and the Madame Bertha's mouse lemurs (the smallest primates in the world) are nearly guaranteed to see during a 2-night stay. We saw 6 nocturnal and 2 diurnal lemurs here, as well as the narrow striped mongoose, Giant jumping rate, and great birds and reptiles (4 species of snakes - all non-poisonous).
The nocturnal walks are an absolute must and much better than nocturnal walks we did elsewhere in Madagascar. The guides have reasonable flashlights but it's best if you also bring your own. The park guides are very good, particularly Christian if you are keen wildlife watchers.
Getting here is about 1.5-2.5 hours from Morondova, depending on the rains. A 4x4 vehicle is probably essential but the road was sandy and not too bad.

Need to mention that there are two parks named “ Kirindy” in Morondava
One is “kirindy Mitea national park”, this park really does not worth a visit AT ALL, IT IS WASTE OF TIME. During my visit i saw just two parrots and one snake. Thats all
The office of this park is located in Belo sur mer village just right next to the church.
The second park is “Kirindy Forest” which you can visit with Avenue of Baobabs in one day. This park is amazing and we saw many kind of birds and Lemurs just in our 2 hours walking. Our guide was also a perfect man. You can book a tour via your hotel
I highly recommend this park

We stopped there to see these mammals, apparently very difficult to find out in other natural parks. The noctural visit to see the lemurs met our expectations. However the place is very pricey for what they offer to the customers, Specially the meals...

Hello, we would like to know how we can book for Réserve Forestière de Kirindy, the night walk and the day walk with a guide? But we are not going to sleep there. Do we just drive to the park where they have an office or how does it work? :)

May I know ehat is the entrance fee and guide fee for this reserve? Thanks
Written September 17, 2018
The entrance fee is about 20.000 A diary and the guide will cost you about 12 000 Ariary. That is about €7.50. If umyou can go as early as possible to see the animals.
Gave a nice trip.

Can you use a mobile phone and do they have electricity in the Reserve? I lost touch with a family member for the last 24 hours, and I am not sure if I should be worried.
Written January 7, 2018
Also we had bad luck with electricity. There is nothing until 6 p.m., but then soon we had to go to the evening tour. After that we had less than half an hour of electricity because of some unknown problem. They gave us a candle and sent us to our cabin. The issue wasn't resolved that day. It is a very remote place, as I said.

È possibile visitare il parco a fine marzo? O è bloccato per le piogge?
