I really enjoyed my tour with Dennis! His passion and interest in Kazakhstan are very evident, and I enjoyed our conversation about Almaty and the history of Kazakhstan. I am an expat living in Almaty for over a year, and I have visited downtown Almaty many times, but I learned a lot of new things with Dennis. I appreciate that he speaks English, Russian, and Kazakh to help explain the way of life in Almaty, but to also communicate easily with the locals. I would highly recommend this tour!…

Dennis, who runs Walking Almaty, is an American who has a very long relationship with Almaty since his teen years and now lives here. He knows the city and its history backwards, having studied it as an academic and written extensively about it. The walking tour is quite easy as most of Almaty, certainly the old part, is flat. We learnt heaps about the history and culture and Soviet past, and Dennis recommended a couple of restaurants and coffee shops which turned out to be simply excellent. The only thing is that the Golden Quarter tour could be a bit longer Almaty is an amazingly beautiful place, one of my favourite cities from around the world. If you come here, and you should, Dennis Keen's 'Walking Almaty' is definitely a must.…

Dennis is very friendly and knowledgeable. Gives you a feel of what Almaty and the country is like, and tips on what to do, where to start, etc. Tour was 2 hour long, ended with the view of Tian Shan which was spectacular (lucky it was a clear morning). Highly recommended.

We went on the Golden Quarter and the Green Bazaar walking tours with Dennis & they were both perfect for introducing us to the city & its edible wonders. Dennis is an extremely knowledgeable guide capable of answering just about any question about Almaty or Kazakhstan. The walking tours were not only interesting and entertaining, but also well-paced, with no sense of rush. I also really appreciated Dennis' willingness to accommodate my mother by translating some of the concepts/names into Russian when her English was not sufficient. Even if you only have one day in Almaty, it is absolutely worth it to do one of Dennis' walking tours. I hope I get to come back to Almaty someday and take the other two tours that I didn't have time for during this visit :)…

Dennis is great tour guide for walking Almaty. We did a Malaya Stanitsa tour which is the original Cossack village of Almaty from the 1850’s. We got a local bus there and met lots of locals and saw the Cultural Centre, Orthodox Church, bazaar and local houses and sights. But the best bit was Dennis’s knowledge of the place, the history, the languages and the locals. Thoroughly recommended.…
