Sure, and we are gay as well, so what the heck are we doing walking into a mosque in the heart of Almaty?
For the experience obviously.
We were welcomed and brought into the heart of the mosque during afternoon prayers, and we sat with the men and took part in the prayers themselves.
You don't have to be a Muslim to appreciate the beauty and serenity of such a place. It is also worth experiencing how people live in other lands, and the best way to do that is to go to the place where everyone worships.
Maybe if we all showed a little bit more tolerance and understanding, the world would be a better place. But isn't that what we do when we travel anyhow?

Maybe having already visited Uzbekistan does not help in appreciating this mosque which seems "ok". However, it is nice to be allowed in the men's side without being much scolded and seeing that Young muslim couples can walk around it hand in hand or hugging each other. The feeling is that Kazakhstan is still retaining that moderate islam we like to be acquainted with.

Central mosque of Almaty is an amazing building. More than it, it's a house of Creater. We came here to pray and charge our souls with love, thankfully to the Greatest One God! I saw many times tourists here, and they always stay satisfied and amazed. Every mosque has rules:
1. You should to take off your shoes.
2. Try to keep silent.
3. Don't walk in front of prayers.
4. Wear decent clothes.
5. Don't be drunk and try to smell good. Angels like when people smell good.
And you are welcome!!! With God blessing after visiting the mosque you will think about the main purpose of our life.
Peace to all of you brothers an sisters!

The main mosque in Almaty and in a good position for visiting near the bazaar and close to the centre. The mosque was an excellent example of the local architecture. Entry was very straightforward though the usual mosque rules must be obeyed. The interior is well worth visiting and I'm certain that groups will be welcomed.

The main mosque in Almaty situated north of the main sites and near the large bazaar. The golden dome is very large and the complex itself likewise. The prayer hall has a lovely chandelier and place is spacious enough to accommodate many people. The entrance façade is impressive and the architecture is line with the majority of the mosques in Kazakhstan.

Performed my solat for the day at this mosque. It was winter and good to have warm water to do my ablution. Big prayer hall.

Our guide took us here for our first stop. It was a beautiful place of worship. The women in our group covered our heads (note: always have a scarf/shawl handy) and the cleric welcomed our questions.

this is a beautiful Mosque, especially on a sunny day, when the golden domes shine in the sun, located in the centre near the Zelenij bazaar

The grand central mosque is worth a visit. It is the biggest one I think in the area and second biggest in Kazakhstan.

Dear readers,
Assalam o alaikum wa RAHMATULLAH e wa Barakatuh
May Peace , Blessing and Mercy of Allah The Almighty be on all of you
I have been in Kazakhstan a few times and recently this January 2018
Masajed ( mosques ) for us Muslims AlhamdULillah ( with the Blessings of Allah SWT) are anyways great means of spiritual comfort but this mosque has been outstanding as far the recitation or the Imam ( religious clerk ) here is concerned
If you wanna feel sweet and heart touching recitation then don’t miss this place while you are at Kazakhstan
It just feels so wonderful to pray here
It also has a very good place for ablution :)
