The castle is gone. Everything that's left on top is barely worth the time and effort. Although the people try to make it interesting.

There is NO castle here, not even the ruins. This is only the site where the AOBA castle used to be. There is nice rock garden with statue of Lord Date (Sendai feudal name) on horse. From here we can have a view of the city, very nice. Don't pay ¥700 to enter the exhibition hall. Not worth it, not... More

Hiked from JR Sendai station to Aoba Castle. Took about 45 minutes. There are faster ways up but I wanted the exercise. It is uphill to the top so give yourself some time. Although the castle is no longer standing there are other cool things to enjoy. The view of Sendai is spectacular! Towering statue of Date Masamune. Shrines and... More

There's no castle any more, just stone walls. It has beautiful view over Sendai. When we visited on weekend, there's a guy dressed in period costume getting in a picture with tourists. He works for tourism office, so he doesn't demand money like an evil Elmo in Time's Square. I don't think you can walk from JR Sendai Station, but... More

There is really much left of the castle, other than the wall that you see on the road up to it and some foundations behind the wall. However, you get a beautiful panoramic view of the city from this site.

Even though the castle is gone, the site is impressive and the museum very interesting. The video is priceless! The view is also great on a sunny day.

Not much is left of the original castle only some stone walls remain and a reconstructed turret can be found here. There is a nice view of the city and some gift shops selling a variety of local items and souvenirs. There are also a few places to snack and or eat. The statue of Masamume Date is pretty impressive... More

Of original architecture, only this sole piece of wall remains opposite the reconstructed Yagura. Now a busy road runs between the two, but it was once seperated by a great gatehouse (black and white pictures), destroyed by firebombing during the Pacific War. There is no main keep. However, the stoneworks remain, and they are fantastic to behold. They're simply so... More

The view of Sendai is pretty good, and the city has done a good job of restoring the ramparts, but you can't get around the fact that there's not a trace of castle to be seen.

All that remains of the castle are some of the walls, but the site has many placards to help you envision what was once here. I was here in the spring and it was a very pleasant place to take a walk and view the city. To me, Sendai is a place to stop on my way to Matsushima and... More
