Very eye catching building in Iwate city. We drove it and it immediately captured my attention. Later on when I was going for lunch, I walked past this building again and admired the historical architecture. I did not go inside the building. I understand that the building is being used as a museum. But it was still a sight to behold.

In my opinion, this is a must-visit building in Morioka. It is iconic for Morioka. Without visiting this building, you will regret. We walked a long way from Iwate Park to visit this building. There is a very interesting shopping street close to this building. It is great for lunch.

If you are in this area and it happens to be open at the time, it is worth to take a peak inside and learn some of the history of the area.. There is a "free" side, which I enjoyed. If you really want to know more, you could pay a small admission fee to see the displays.

Old building, I don't think you can go inside. You can see together when you go to old fire house nearby. It's small but beautiful.

We were given a tour of the bank and the history surrounding it. Interesting and some beautiful aspects. The rose garden outside is very beautiful.

Most tourists will surely go to this building. It is open to all. If you do not want to go to a few specific rooms, the entry is free. It is nice to take some time to visit this building.

Looks familiar? That's probably because Tatsuno Kingo, the designer for the famous old Tokyo Station, has a hand in designing this, along with Manji Kasai. Visiting the now Tokyo Station Hotel may be a bit difficult, particularly if you are not a staying guest, and the internal decor have been massively refurbished anyway. But coming here can still catch a glimpse of how the internal of a Tatsuno Kingo building looks like. Having said that, Tatsuno Kingo's buildings have that majestic attributes that blend in very coherently with the red bricks used. So much so that whenever I see such building in Japan, his name will surely springs to mind. And that's the legacy he left behind during the Meiji era.
A small part of the building requires admission fee.

Good photo stop but nothing much else. Nearby is the camel for a good relaxing walk and a shopping street for retail therapy

You can visit much of the building without paying an entrance ticket or you can visit some inner areas for a fee.

We choose just to visit the free rooms and were perfectly satisfied. We spent a long time looking through the building and photographing it.

The entire building is open to the public it seems. For all the rooms we visited there were printouts with photos and detailed descriptions in English of the purpose of the space and the architectural details along with design information. Highly informative.

The landmark 1911 red brick Bank of Iwate is open to the public and very well signed. This “National Important Cultural Property” was designed by the firm responsible for Tokyo Station.

As we were leaving the docent asked us where we were from and thanked us for visiting.

Definitely worth a visit if you have any interest in Western style architecture in Japan.
