三ツ石神社の鬼の手形を見た後に寄りました。明治4年から明治28年まで啄木の母方の伯父が住職だった寺で、少年時代の啄木もたびたびここを訪れ、詩歌の指導を受けたといわれている寺です。境内には、国の天然記念物「モリオカシダレ」があり満開で綺麗でした。この天然記念物を見に来られる方が散見されました。

珍しい桜の木があります。
モリオカシダレは国の天然記念物に指定されており、
春になると市民の目を楽しませてくれます。
私は目的地までの通り道でしたので立ち寄りました。
盛岡市関連のサイトによれば
＞啄木の父、 一禎（いってい）と住職の妹であった啄木の母カツが結ばれたのもこの寺でした。
とのことです！
近くに行く用事があれば、立ち寄ってみてもいいかも？
お寺自体は普通のお寺です。

盛岡を訪れた際、市街地中心から少し外れた寺院が集まる寺町にありました。お寺も雰囲気は良いですが、桜も非常に有名です。私が訪れた時には少し時期がずれていたようであまり楽しめなかったので、満開の時期に再訪できればと思いました。

盛岡市内の寺町通りの一番奥。山門を入ったすぐ先の本堂の脇に、桜のモリオカシダレという桜があって、これが見どころ。すごいというほどではないですが、枝垂れた枝振りはそれなりに雰囲気があります。

北限の国指定天然記念物「モリオカシダレ」（桜）があり、啄木の母方の伯父が住職だったことでも有名です。モリオカシダレが咲いている時に行ったら、通勤途中のおじさんや、お花見の人が次々立ち寄っていて、人気の高さを感じました。

こちらのお寺は、盛岡市街地のやや北寄り、寺院が沢山集まっている北山地区にあり、町全体が歴史的な地区として景観保存対象となっている風光明媚な所ですが、このお寺の境内には、モリオカシダレと呼ばれる、素晴らしい桜の木があります。私は9月の訪問でしたので、勿論花は咲いていませんでしたが、木の姿を見るだけでも一見の価値があるかと思いますので、是非、花の時期以外にも訪れてみて、木の凄さを味わってみて下さい。
