Stone Age ("Jomon") people inhabited the area of northern Japan near modern-day Hachinohe at least 5000 years ago. Judging from the artfulness of the excavated artifacts on display at Korekawa Museum, the ancients had developed sophisticated techniques for creating beautiful and useful everyday objects and instruments. You can tell a lot of money has been invested in this museum - it's a little way out of town so you'll need a car or to take a bus. The jomon stuff is impressive and there's also a small gift shop. If you go on a Sunday then you can also do pottery and other crafts for only... More
