An excellent, easy to reach, museum to learn about the history, archaeology, and customs of the people of the Aomori area from the paleolithic to the present. The museum is well organized and just the right size to tell the story of the area without overwhelming the visitor. The docents are all very friendly and willing to help. If the docent in your room doesn't speak English, they will find someone who does. If you only have a day or two in Aomori, this is the place to go.

Excellent museum with very helpful staff. Some basic English on exhibit signs but has free wifi & more detailed descriptions in English of major exhibits via QR codes. Hands on experience space good for children with clothes to try on & much more.
Best way to spend a wet afternoon.

We decided to go here after finding out that the Art museum was closed, and I'm glad we gave it a chance. There's a heap of exhibitions on Aomori here: about the Jomon period, the natural history of the area, the farming history, and its more recent history from the Edo period to today. The latter section had the most extensive English signage, but most items had at least an English label. Having been to a few museums in Tohoku this week I was expecting to spend 30 mins there at most, but we spent almost two hours looking at everything. Even if you were going to go through it faster i'd allow at least an hour.
