Good for field visit as half the exhibits are outside the building and educational. Probably not a good idea to visit if the ground is wet.

At the historical site, many traces of settlements of the Jomon period were excavated. The historic site was maintained to make them widely known. Although there are several historical sites in Jomon period other than here, this is Japan's largest in terms of...More

As others have noted this is a reconstructed Jomon-era (prehistoric) village and museum on an active archaeological site. We toured the village first which was probably a mistake. There is a fair amount of signage but it does a fairly poor job of explaining the...More

This place is 10 minutes from Shin-Aomori station on the nebutan-go bus. I was surprised at how well-organised this whole place was, as well as the amount of information there was in English. Entrance to both the site and the museum is free. Upon request,...More

Good history lesson - interesting for teens and kids who love crawling into ancient huts. But there is a lot of walking if your legs get achy and you have back problems.
