We went Dec 3 and were extremely lucky w the weather. Blue sky and 15 kmh wind is only 2 days per month in winter. At top of ropeway there is a 30 and 60 mins hiking course. In winter bring snow shoes or rent them. Or get free of charge deep rubber boots at top station. They have about... More

The Hakkoda Ropeway is the best way to get up to the top. There are hikes near the top. There may or not be a great view depending upon the clouds. We did not have the best view, but did enjoy the short 30 minute hike that we went on and the experience.

The mountain itself has a nice view of the hills and plateaus surrounding the mountain. However, you can find 1200 meter is not a small figure. In late October, you can find only snow at the top without any view. You can imagine why Japan itself is on hot waters. Volcanos erupted to amass some soils. We are just walking... More

Good for all ages . Beware, can be really cold up top. They serve food , hot cocoa, tea etc and have a small gift shop. Great views.

1 mile + gondola ride for 15 minute. Have available another layer clothing for when you get on top - it will definitely be cooler and will be needed if you want to walk around above. Since it takes a while to ride up and down there will be a waiting line - a short one, but a nice experience... More

We went in July and got lucky with the perfect weather. To me the highlight was the short hike at the top. Our route took us to a viewing deck facing a tranquil marsh with mountains in the background. Just beautiful.

I can't say much about it because the day I wen it was snowing very heavily that there is basically really low visibility. Only one of the ski slope remains open. However, I still find it fun because I get to see how the ropeway operators deal with the frost that form in the cable car. so even though I... More

The Hakkoda Ropeway is an enjoyable 1 hour bus trip from the Aomori train station. Buy your ticket at the Tourist Information Centre which is right next to the Aomori Train Station. Unfortunately, I didn't check the weather and my day was ruined because it was rainy and foggy all day. When I arrived at the Hokkoda Ropeway I didn't... More

There is snow and, then, there is Hakkoda. There is snow everywhere, it is deep, dry and powdery snow and it never seems to stop snowing. We were excited to take the ropeway up, but with no intention of skiing down after we realised that the visibility due to heavy snow fall was somewhat limited and that the slopes were... More

This was part of a shore excursion that we took. We also visited the Nebuta Festival Float Museum and the fish market. They really pack you into the gondola when it is ski season.
