We flew from Tokyo to Odate-Noshiro airport, rented a small car (quite adequate given that the even the remote roads are in excellent shape), and spent 3 days exploring the central/south-western section of the forest (we didn't go over to the Hirosaki/falls area, where we...More

It was the beautiful forest and river. The tree was so green, and the river was crystal clear. You can enjoy walking along the river if you like to be in the nature.

Bit difficult to summarise the entirety of a large forest in a single review, but I'll try to cover the bits I visited: Rent a car in Hirosaki. There are loads of places that do it - Times, Nipponrentacar, Toyota, Nissan and Oryx. Prices start...More

We just spent 3 days driving around in a small car without a problem. There are some rougher gravel roads, but a regular car should do on those as well.

Juniko or Goshikinuma? (7 Replies)
Hi all, I have to make a choice between Juniko (Shirakami Sanchi) and Goshikinuma (Urabandai). Which would you choose for the autumn foliage and scenery? Thanks in advance!

Response fromWilliam512|
It depends on the time of visit, mid Oct for Juniko (Shirakami Sanchi) and late Oct for Goshiki-Numa. The lake area around Juniko may have a slight edge as autumn foliage season there is said to last till late Oct.
