At dusk, the place is quite charming and you can even catch some performances if you're lucky, like young singers who play their original songs.

We visited the boardwalk district during the cosplay festival Oct 7 & 8. Absolutely unique show of hundreds of wild teenagers and custom cars. Much better than commercial Takeshita street in Shinjuku , Tokyo. See pictures

The boardwalk is beautiful and is a nice place to walk along the river. You can enjoy your lunch under one of the modern canopies. You will find art, statues and many more things along the way!

Shinmachi Boardwalk is a nice promenade to stroll along the river. Several coffee shops and restaurants are located there. Cosplays go to this region during weekends and special events.

I was there on a Saturday aft. There were dozens of food vendors to try. There were also lots of people selling different kinds of homemade items.

The Shinmachi Boardwalk is reminiscent of Venice California and the bridges are beautifully illuminated at night. It is a great place for couples and summer evening strolls.

Because the area is so flat, when the tide comes in, the flow reverses. Not quite as dramatic as The Reversing Falls on the Saint John River in Saint John, NB, Canada (OK; it's not dramatic at all) but interesting. It is jellyfish season now (late June) and they are interesting to watch as well. There are many bridges over Shinmachigawa, so if you are bored on one side, cross over the next block. Retail stores and little food shops abound, but the best reward is Awa Shinmachigawa Brewery at the square by Shinmachigawabashi.
