This short cruise (approx 20-30 mins) is a great way to see some of the city from a super comfy boat. It takes you around the island in a loop and is great value at only ¥300 for adults and 150¥ for children. You can also take the boat to the AEON Mall to save you haing to walk!

This is one attraction you should NOT miss if you're in Tokushima City. You only pay 300 yen (for insurance) for this 30-minute cruise that goes around the canal (originally the outside moat of Tokushima Castle), and, man, it's a hoot! Yes, you'll view the city in a different light. And the blue stone wall that lines the canal is absolutely gorgeous. But it is the conductor that really makes the trip special. Our conductor was fantastic -- he was knowledgeable, entertaining, and eager to share all that the city has to offer with us. There are many entertaining moments during the trip, too. There are seagulls (LOTS of them) you get to feed, and there are gazillion bridges, some of which come down so low that one must duck to avoid getting hit by them. Seriously, this was one of the most entertaining things we did in Tokushima City. Don't miss it!…

If you are downtown in the Shinmachi area of Tokushima, the Hyotan Island Cruise is worth the 200 yen price! Tokushima, although not quite Venice, is very much a city of rivers, and this tour gives you some of the highlights of the area around downtown. The small open boats hold about a dozen people, and in general the tour leaves every 40 minutes, although they sometimes increase the tours during popular festivals (like Awa Odori) or holiday seasons (Golden Week). The actual tour itself lasts from 20-30 minutes. The tours generally only run from the late morning to mid-afternoon or so, although that may also vary according to the holidays. Although not absolutely essential to a visit to Tokushima, if you are in the downtown area and have some time, I'd recommend the tour. Kids…
