Loved Megijima for the Setouchi Triennale. A shop stop from Takamatsu port and a great island to ramble around. So deserted but full of life as well. The art works are great. Not sure they are open all year round but during the Setouchi well worth a visit. Less high-art than Naoshima but just as thrilling.

I easily explored this island on foot (it is about twice the size as Ogijima). The somewhat steep yet pleasant road leading up to Washigamine Lookout was better on foot than bike (unless you had an electric-assist bike). The views from the top were amazing - Seto Inland Sea and numerous islands. Back near the port there is an interesting... More

This island is relatively modest but has an interesting historical cave sight and during the summer has a choice of places to eat and drank at beside the sea. Small but a 20 minutes hop from Takamatsu, and a good way to experience a taste of the Inland Sea.

At the ferry station you can hire bikes. I suggest you pay a little more and get the electric ones - there is a steep hill to climb. We hardly saw another soul and enjoyed cycling around the island. Be careful of some off the less used paths as they were covered in cobwebs. Picked a tangerine from a tree... More

Great for hiking. Not much else to do. The beach is not for tanning; it is a fishing beach. Important: take food / bento with you. On the top of the mountain, there're very nice picnic tables (great view + tree shades) - near the "mystery cave". These tables have fab locations. There are NO convenient stores on this island.... Well worth a visit, especially for the art installations now for the art fest, but also generally- the people were nice and friendly and the entire atmosphere was relaxed and low key. lovely views of the islands around.

megijima island is 20 minutes ferry ride from takamatsu in shikoku island (360yen one way). Famous from its ogre cave from momotaro legend, this island would be great to visit during full cherry blossoms. too bad i got here before blossoms, though in north japan the sakura is already in full blossoms..
