I didn't really have high expectations when coming to the zoo based on some previous reviews. I live nearby and decided today was the day to visit. Entrance fee was only 500 Yen. The zoo is nicely laid out with gorgeous plants especially at the beginning. As we walked further into the zoo we saw tiny cages where monkeys were in. I felt sorry for them, but based on other new enclosures I really hope that the Spider and Squirrel Monkeys get a new enclosure because the current ones are pathetic. The Japanese Macaques had a really nice enclosure. After getting passed this section the zoo became much nicer. I loved the goat exhibit, neat that he could walk around the roof of the building. I feel the zoo had decent enclosures for the rest of the animals, a lot of the newer cages were very nice, so I hope the other animals get something new. The lake at the bottom is very nice as well, beautifully done. Overall, I felt my money was well spent here, I am hopeful more animals get newer cages but it seems it is heading in the right direction.

The animals were treated so badly they were extremely skinny and malnourished. Do not go here they need to be shut down

The zoo was a bit disappointing compared to other zoos in Asia with the animal fixtures very tired looking. If you are in the area with kids then worth a stop for a couple hours. There is a riding pony, petting zoo, and fishing area which are unique and probably worth the time. Otherwise don’t set your expectations high.

I attended the 12/24/19 light show which also featured dance acts. There were African songs, traditional Okinawan drum music, a few English Xmas songs, and Rapp. I was shocked to hear the music chosen for the Rapp-the lyrics were sexually provocative and profane-very unsuitable for young children which were in attendance in multiples. The zoo may want to revamp their acts to keep it kid-friendly.

There was a ton of things to see and we really enjoyed this VERY much. It was one of the highlights of our trip. If you go to Okinawa, make sure to make this one of your stops.

Admission was ¥500 for adults and free for my daughter who is 2. There was a large variety of animals to see, the zoo was very clean, and stroller friendly. Of course a lot of walking and there were some steeper hills so just be prepared. It was an awesome day and it looked like they were setting up chili’s,taps lights for the season. We went during the day so I’m not sure when they come on or start. Parking was free.

It is a good zoo for family with kids to spend about half day there. There are some big animals for visiting and some small ones for feeding. We loved the japanese cartoon kid karts very much as our kid had a very happy moment when playing there. Their area is big, so we would spend much energy there for walking around all the points.

I visit the zoo in a rainy day, we cannot go to lake side, but the zoo area still amazing. I like Japan zoo very much, it is really kid friendly. There has a mini plaza for kids touch, feed and explore animal.

This zoo is smaller than i imagined and does not have a great variety of animals you normally find. Giraffes and Elephants are the two impressive mammals of this place. You often find one animal being kept in relatively small cages that are lack of space to move. It was a rainy day when we visited there, so I decided to take the kid to the museum near the entrance. It's quite an interactive place where kids can explore science and physics. If you've never been Okinawa and you are with kids, it is fine to go there for once.

If you travelled 2nd time to Okinawa and have young children this place is perfect for you. We were unlucky as it was raining but we still walked through the entire park. Nice game you can see. Many different turtles, snakes etc. Of course not comparable with a big city zoo like Singapore or Tokyo. Not many people so its a very relaxing walk. You can rent a fishing rod which we did. My kids loved it. Very Memorable and sure my kids would go back anytime just for the fishing. Have fun
